“Great value for a Hong Kong Hotel”
Reviewed August 24, 2010

The Staff
The staff is OK. They're not as warm as with other hotels I've tried but they're definitely not rude. The girls in the reception are cute ;). They lent us their umbrella when it was raining.

The Room
We got a superior room and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with how it looked. It was very nice, comfortable and very clean. This is definitely not a cookie-cutter room.

The Bathroom
The bathroom was small but OK. The doors were made of glass so you can actually see through what's inside if you want.

The Bed
The bed was comfortable. Too bad I can't say the same for the pillows. Those were lame.

The Location
- The hotel is near the corner of Morrison Hill Road and Leighton Road in Wan Chai.
- It's directly in front of a bus stop. Because of this, taxis won't drop you off or pick you up at the front door. You will have to walk to the corner (Sharp Street) to get one.
- Times Square (and the entrance to the Causeway Bay MTR) is just 10 minutes walk from the hotel BUT you may have to walk through a wet market to go there (Wan Chai Road). This may be an adventure for some and a turn off for others.
- There's not much variety in terms of cheap restaurants within the vicinity of the hotel. We came upon two restaurants that serve noodles but their english menu is very limited.
- There's a 7-11 two blocks away going to Hennessy Road.

For the price, this hotel is worth it. :)

Since I was with girlfriends on a shopping trip, we were looking for a hotel that would not bust our budgets. I was also bent on staying at Causeway Bay since I had always stayed at the Tsim Sha Tsui area whenever in HK. This boutique hotel seemed to be the answer.
The hotel is a short taxi ride away from the airport express terminal in HK Island. The cab stops at the block, since the hotel entrance is in front of the bus stops. Aside from the hotel room, don't expect any other useful amenities. No pool, no room service, etc. The toiletries smell great though, and the free bottled water is large enough. We had a good view of the hills and the Happy Valley racetrack. Good rainshower head and massage head. Modern fixtures in the toilet.
I couldn't understand the transparent glass doors to the toilet though. They should have been smoked for privacy. The towels were also threadbare, and the carpet didn't look clean. The room and the beds were too tiny, even for HK standards, and I bumped my head 5 times while getting something out of the closet. There was no nightlife or good restaurants within walking distance, but it's so easy to get a cab or walk to the mtr.
OK for the price, but the hotel can improve on certain aspects just by carefully thinking things through.

We stayed in this hotel in February and had booked to stay in a Superior room but we were upgraded for free to a Deluxe room on arrival at the Hotel. We had just spent a whole day travelling to Hong Kong from mainland China and were quite tired and worn out on arrival, so it was great to have speedy check in from friendly hotel staff. The hotel itself is conveniently located no more than ten minutes walk from Causeway Bay metro stop. The hotel room was gorgeous! I loved it. Really comfortable bed, big windows, lovely bathroom. It was very clean and stylishly done. Although there are no breakfast facilities in this hotel, this wouldn't put me off staying again or recommending it to others as there are lots of places right outside the door where you can go get something to eat, be it traditional Hong Kong food, or something from Franco Papa. I would definitely return here.

its a new hotel so its quite a plush hotel. stayed here for 3nights but only pay for 2. i would say this hotel is located within causeway bay and wanchai so everything is within walking distance. the room is a bit small cos i bump into the chair of the room three times in 1 night. apart from that, i do enjoy my stay there.

It's a nice neat little hotel in Causeway Bay area, one of the most live area in Hong Kong. The location just behind Times Square makes it so convenient and easy to get around. MTR station also located at the Times Square. A lot of interesting local restaurant and shops nearby. One of the must try transportation is Ding Ding or the tram. There's a tram stop within walking distance from this hotel. There is no complaint for this hotel except 1, the sound of the shower water from next door room can be annoying in the night. Looks like there is no soundsproof in the room.

Received by friendly concierge staff at lobby. Was told during check-in there were no double-bed rooms left so settled with one with disabled facilities, i.e. tiny sink. Room was lovely but reception staff were unpleasant and rude.

My wife and I stayed at the Butterfly for 3 days in late June 2010. We arrived around 10pm after a very very long flight. The lobby is on the 3rd floor, which may be off-putting to some, but there is someone at street level to assist you 24hrs a day. Check in was no issue and the room was clean and comfortable. For Hong Kong, the room is good size with all the amenities. The hotel itself is about a 5-10 min to Times Square and a 15min taxi (depending on traffic) to IFC and the ferries to Kowloon and the Peak. Ideal location if you ask me. If you are looking for a boutique hotel in Hong Kong, I highly recommend the Butterfly.
