We were looking for street market food and street market prices. I am not sure we got the former (it was pretty bland but I suspect we are spoiled for choice in our home town of Wellington) and definitely not the latter. We had eaten the previous evening at a much better presented 'formal' restaurant on Nathan Road with better food and roughly the same price. What really detracted from the meal though was the way they rushed us through our meal. We were seated outside among the market stalls and as people left (this was early - around 8pm) they started stacking the plastic stools that passed for seating and the tables. As we got closer to finishing our meal they brought our check and stood over us until we paid. They had already started clearing up around us as we finished dishes which we didnt mind but it turned into pressure when they moved the last dish while we were still eating from it!

We have probably eaten at Tong Tai on 10 occasions, it is my 7 year old's favourite restaurant in HK. Cheap and delicious, great to sit and watch the passing foot traffic. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do

Stepping out of character, but inspired by the reviews read here, we had dinner at this street restaurant. Between the two of us, we had five plates: fried squid, fried prawns, crab, rice and broccoli, and one beer each. The food was tasty. One mistake in our order was the crab dish. At 280 HK dollars, we were surprised that this plate was a whole fried crab, i.e. 90% of it was, to our taste, inedible.

In the end, the bill at Tong Tai (street restaurant with plastic plates/cutlery and Kleenex for napkins) was ~60% of our dinner the following evening - an exquisite multiple course tasting menu with fabulous wine pairing - at One Harbour Road at the Grand Hyatt, overlooking the Victoria Harbour, which was a bit surprising.

This the authentic seafood paradise in Hong Kong. It is along Temple Street at the North end of the Temple Street Market area and has a small indoor area which spills out into the street serving most of its clientele on street/picnic tables. We had to wait our chance to secure a table. Close your eyes to the buckets in the street where the used food, utensils and bowls are thrown for "washing-up" - forget it or don't worry about that - you will be served with clean tableware.

All sorts of beautiful seafood, vegetables and meats are served with rice and noodles - try the spiced crabs or salt and pepper squid. All cooked with the taste in mind. Whilst you are waiting for your food to arrive, close your eyes and take in the splendid aromas that surround you.

For the standard of food consumed this place was probably the best value restaurant we encountered in our two weeks in Hong Kong.

Shockingly amazing locale and original good Hong Kong food. A nice surprise, hidden gem in the life busting Temple street market. Definitely have to visit if you want to explore Hong Kong further than the shopping mall mania and glamorous big lights city. Very cheap, regarding Hong Kong standards and food is just delicious.

Just be prepared as authentic as it is, it is a street market place and staff and service is typical Chinese, which in my opinion adds to the value of the experience
