Stayed for 4 nights in first week of June. Beds were comfortable. High speed wi- fi. Very clean rooms. Friendly staff. Great location, 5 min from MTR. Though no option for late checkout, they help to leave our baggage until late evening.

Stayed here for one night in June, 2013. Had a fantastic experience, from the friendly attentive staff to the surprisingly large room (we're talking HK here folks...). Most tropical locales suffer from the mustiness that comes with high temperatures and ever running AC units. To combat this, CHI 279 had an air purifier in the room which was a great surprise.

Very well located, with every hole-in-the-wall restaurant you can dream of nearby.

Room Tip: They are all non-smoking. Apparently the higher up you go the lower the noise level is, although I d...

CHI 279 Residence, located in 279 Shanghai Street, Yau Ma Tei, Kowloon Island is good choice for families visiting Hong Kong. Our family of four stayed in CHI 279 from 25th May to 30th May, 2013 in Apartment #11B. The apartment is small, and is slightly expensive, which is the case with all Hong Kong hotels.

This is an apartment complex, hence there is no lobby. You need password to enter the lobby. Make sure that manager is present in the lobby to let you in when you arrive at the place. Taxis do not know CHI 279, you should tell them to take you to Silka Sea View Hotel on Shanghai St, and CHI 279, is on the other side of Shanghai St.

We faced a problem when we checked in - we have emailed in advance that four of our family will be staying in the apartment and paid in advance accordingly. However, we were charged extra 30% on arrival saying that the advance was for three persons only.

There is daily room service, apartment is neat and tidy, air conditioning, free wi-fi, kitchenette (hotplate, refrigerator etc), TV - all worked very well. Tony and Silosis helped us with our luggage while checking in and on check out. There is laundry on the roof, but we never used it. Lift is available from lobby on first floor to your floor.

McDonalds is just one furlong distance (in a movie complex), and there is Wellcome supermarket next to McDonalds where all necessities for your stay are available.

Night Market Street opens daily in the evening opposite to CHI 279 residence and Ladies Street Market is walking distance on Nathan Road and then on to Dandas St. There is an Indian restaurant located within Ladies Street Market.

Taxis are expensive in Hong Kong as you have to pay toll at many places; you need to travel by MTR all the time. Yau Ma Tei MTR is about half kilometer from CHI 279, Exit C takes you to Nathan St. Always carry map, and translator (to Chinese) application in hand (on a tablet) as the streets are confusing around CHI 279, and English is not spoken.

Our family enjoyed our stay in CHI 279 and we highly recommend for families visiting Hong Kong.

What a gem of a find. If you are looking for a superb room, this is the place. Very clean, very comfortable, has its own DV library and a player in the room. It even has a air purifier. For the traveller who is watching the pocket, but not wanting to downgrade on accommodation, this is the place.

The first impression might put people off as Shanghai Street itself is off the main road and the hotel is nestled amidst old buildings all around. Once you step in, it's a different world. The room is nicely appointed with a kitchenette and a small sitting room. My 7-yo son could sleep comfortably on the sofa. Whilst not 5*, it is well worth the money for the accommodation.

The location is near Temple Street for those who like the night bustle. Plenty of small eateries around and shops along the main Nathan Road just a few minutes walk away. For those into bakery and cooking, there are quite a few shops specialising in cookware and bakeware.

Also a short walk to Yau Ma Tei MTR, it is good as a springboard to various locations in HK.

On the night of arrival, the main entrance was locked, and we pressed the button for contacting the management office for a good 10 to 15 mins. Imagine our frustration on a warm summer night! There was a phone number pasted on the wall, but I didn't have a local phone, so I had to approach a stranger to help me make the call! I was lucky to find a friendly stranger!

Other than that, the room was nicely designed, and considered spacious by Hong Kong standards.

The map on its website should have indicated the pretty well-known dessert shop. That would make it easier to find. Or to include the name of the other hotel which is opposite.

It's near to many restaurants, shopping street, the subway. Location is rather convenient. once you know where the hotel is.

Everything you need is here. Small kitchen with necessary appliances and kitchenware. Good size fridge/freezer. Living room and bedroom both small but comfortable. The bed was very good. All in all a nice base of operations.

Location is excellent. One block away from the famed Temple Street Market and only about 16 blocks away from the Womens Market in the Mong Kok area. The Upscale (and overpriced) Nathan Road is only 2 blocks over. Many, many restaurants ranging from noodle soups to expensive seafood. We ate at one every nite and were never disappointed.

By far, the local manager, Henry Lau was a delight. He speaks English well and goes out of his way to help in any way possible. He greatly adds to the charm of Chi Residences.

TIP: Take great care of what you order at restaurants. Four (4) times during our 10 day trip were were charged for items never ordered or served. Our local Chinese friend informed us this is a very common practice done to pad the bill. It is not done by mistake. Be sure to challenge the bill if it appears to be more than you expected. They will adjust the bill but only if you ask.

Room Tip: This is a small "vertical" hotel with only 2 rooms per floor. We were on 10 and could sti...

The 2 night stay was wonderful. It was a small, compact yet well furnished. We could have a cosy sofa TV area to have our snacks and sip our wine when we are back at night. The free wifi is a definite plus.

The manager and staff were all extremely helpful and were able to recommend good eateries.

Location was within short walk from Yau Ma Tei MTR and near the NATHAN ROAD shopping area and within short walking distance from night markets at Temple Street and "Ladies' Street". Lots of food and shopping and night activities.

It is only 2 train stations away from Tsim Sha Tsui, where the harbour, cultural areas is. So it is a definite great location to stay.
