“Very satisfactory hotel for business trip”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

This hotel was recommended to me by a HK-based friend. Although it's a couple of stops further down the MTR Island Line than I normally stay, this adds just a few moments of journey time when getting to meetings in Central and the cost saving was definitely worthwhile.

I booked online and took one of the Club packages as these offered breakfast buffet and free internet.

The hotel is situated about 400m walk from Fortress Point MTR. As some of the other reviewers point out, this is not the most chic neighbourhood - the walk down Oil Street takes you past a bunch of little workshops doing things like car repairs, but they - this is Hong Kong, it's always a bit cheek-by-jowl and I like that the city has character. It's certainly not unsafe in any way - I'd be happy for my teenage kids to walk back from the MTR to the hotel late at night, for example. But don't expect to be able to walk out of the hotel and do much on foot - there aren't a great many restaurants in the vicinity, you have to go one stop on the MTR or a short taxi ride (or 10min walk) to somewhere like Causeway Bay before you will find any night life.

The hotel staff were all very friendly. I checked in on the 41st floor Club level, and had a beer while they sorted out the formalities. It was very quick and efficient, as one expects in Asia. I arrived around 5pm so there was no question about the room being ready. The room was fine for my purposes - very clean, comfortable bed, desk with wired internet and plenty of power sockets. Lots of wardrobe space, too. It would have been a little small if I was travelling with my wife, but as a business traveller it was fine. Maybe they have larger rooms for couples/families.

I made use of several facilities - the Chinese restaurant served a very tasty dinner and was not outrageously expensive, though when I dined out with a colleague at a nearby (excellent) Chinese restaurant recommended by the hotel it was substantially cheaper. I'm not a big fan of eating in the hotel all the time anyway. The buffet breakfast was very good, with both Western cooked breakfast and Chinese on offer, plus fruit, cereal etc. The buffet was open quite long hours, too which was good news when one is adjusting to the time difference. Each morning the staff greeted me by name upon arrival to Club Lounge which was nice, too. The views of Kowloon & the harbour from the Club Lounge and the neighbouring restaurant 'Le 188' were very good.

The gym is pretty good though it would have been nice to have a rowing machine.

I held a number of business meetings at the hotel and staff were very accommodating and helpful.

The pool was closed but this was advertised on their website before I booked so it didn't bother me.

I used the laundry a few times and items were always picked up very swiftly and returned in good time and nicely ironed. Prices were quite sensible for hotel laundry.

I also had a Chinese Massage in the Spa. It was fantastic.

My return flight didn't leave until 11pm so I asked for a late checkout and they let me use the room until 5pm which was extremely generous. I was then permitted to use the Club facilities for the rest of the evening, which was nice of them compared with having to wait a long time in the airport.

I would be happy to recommend this hotel for business travellers looking for a comfortable place which is substantially less expensive than the standard 'branded' offerings in Admiralty or Central. For families or couples sightseeing, it's a good option as long as you are not looking for a super-luxury place.

Room Tip: When you arrive in HK, buy an Octopus card for the public transport system, it will speed you up a l...

We stayed for 5 nights in February on our way to Australia. We had a great view from a Grand Deluxe Harbour view room and were able to watch the New Year firework display in comfort from there. The room was not large but perfectly ok with a well appointed bathroom. The location is a little out of the way but public transport is so good in Hong Kong that it doesn't matter - it is only a short walk (about 3 minutes) to the nearest MTR and bus/tram stops, also the Hotel runs a free shuttle to Central. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast buffet was good with a very wide choice. The pool was still closed when we were there but due to reopen soon. The hotel is great value for money and we would definitely use it again.

Room Tip: Higher floors with Harbour view are best

We arrived at this hotel at 10am for 3 nights in February 2013 celebration our anniversary. After a 14 hours flight we were told our room was not ready as check in was 2pm and this was not a problem they have their policy. The staff checked us in and we asked if there was anywhere we could sit and wait for the room to be ready. There was no where as the lounge did not open till 11am. So basically we had to hang around and asked if could get a coffee any where. We were directed to the restaurant where breakfast was being served and told them of our journey. Having stayed at mant hotels in Europe, North America and Asia we sort of expected that we would be offered a cup of tea/coffee. No we had buy them which for a 5* hotel we found dissapointing.
Having said this we went to the lounge at 11am and waited. About 11.45 am my wife decided to ask if there was a possibility the room could be ready earliear. We were offered a upgrade and then told it would be HK$800 per night extra, whcih we declined. A few minutes later we were told our room was ready.

The room was very small but had a view over the harbour but the windows were very dirty on the outside. The hotel is a bit out of the way but very near the MTR so travel aroung HK is easy.

Restaurant and breakfast were very good (we only had breakfast as we wanted to experience all the food outside). But we had a special request for gluten free meal and the did not cater for this despite the fact we were told just tell reception and everything will be sorted. Well it wasn't.

There is no complimentary wifi and they charged HK$130 for 24 hrs use. I needed to send a message home but they do not have facilities for use of a computer for a few minutes. Surrounding area to the hotel is car repair shops etc.

Awful experience, the rooftop bar and swimming pool were both closed for a private function and renovations. Our room with a 'view' was not as publicized on their website and was next to the cleaners closet, we were woken in the morning by loud banging by the maids. The mini bar was locked and we had to request someone to come up and open it. There is no free internet in the hotel and it costs $120 HKD per 24 hours, per device. On top of all this, the hotel is located in the middle of no-where, on a destitute street that is full of mechanics and broken down cars.

Room Tip: If you are after a 5* experience choose a different hotel.

We stayed at the harbour grand for 3 nights on our way home frome Australia. We absolutley loved the hotel, and even though the area surrounding wasnt wonderful, we hardly saw it as we were off and out exploring Hong kong, so it didnt bother us in the slightest! The view from the restaurant was so amazing that it didnt matter about anything else! We ate in the restaurant the first night and it was a great meal. The staff in the hotel were so friendly and helpful, and we upgraded to the Harbour club rooms and it was well worth the money. The afternoon tea was fabulous and the cocktails from 6-8 were very popular! the only downside was the pool wasnt finished , but even so , a fantastic time was had by all and if we ever go back to hong kong we wouldnt hesitate to stay here!

Room Tip: The harbour club rooms have a fabulous view of the harbour

We stayed for 3 nights in February 2013.

Our room (on 25 floor) was just the right size, with a fantastic view, well cleaned and maintained.

The staff was very polite and eager to please, and thus every our request was fulfilled promptly and swiflty.

The information desk at the lobby was very helpful, taxies were ordered promptly, etc.

Breakfast was quite good.

The hotel is a 1 minute walk to the MTR "Fortress Hill", a number of regular and fast food restaurants are nearby, and overall location is a bit off (but then you pay significantly less and still got amazing harbour views).

Overall - we were completely satisfied, and would recommend to anyone:)

Enjoy Hong Kong - it's amazing!:)

This hotel has a good view of the Hong Kong Harbour, however, there is some construction work going on at the harbour. The hotel is very clean, the room are excellent ans spacious.
Staff are very polite and extremely helpful.

The location is not fantastic as its at the North End, howver, the underground station is about 2 minutes walk and the underground system is excellent, very cheap compared to London and elsewhere, really efficient.

Room Tip: Ask for a harbour view.
