“aroma delightful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2012

Enjoyed the pleasant aroma each time when entering the grand lobby and while waiting for the lifts. The doors were always opened by staff as one entered or left the hotel. Flower arrangements at the front desk were interesting. Chandeliers were large, beautiful, bright, and glitzy. The lobby was the most spacious area of our entire trip and it felt welcoming after crowding into densely populated spaces most of the day. The lovely fitness female and male locker rooms on third floor each had dry and steam saunas plus large towels. The large sunflower head showers were great as well as the dispensing shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Service was courteous. In addition, lining up some Gray Line tours at the concierge desk was simple as they had an agent right there. Took 2 HK tours and 1 Macau tour which guaranteed that we saw many sights in 3 days that would have been a challenge to do on our own in three days. September discounts on breakfast, lunch, and dinner are on the hotel website so be sure to have those printed out in advance to reduce costs. Safety check announcements awakened us a couple nights but we were forewarned with a notice in our room.
"Stay calm" was the advisement. Actually, it made me feel more secure after reading online about the mid-April fire. Walking outside in the evening felt safe and it was interesting to see another side of Hong Kong. Was able to find a Fortress shop so could get additional batteries for my camera. The hotel is celebrating opening three years ago and it is evident that it is ultra modern and classy. Visually, this hotel has it all.

Room Tip: 28th floor worked well for us

My fist time to stay here, on a business trip to Hong Kong. I'm very familiar with this area, and never knew that this great hotel had been built in the last 2 years. to be honest, the location is a bit of a dive, with residential, car garages, a few tea shops, and some ex-government offices leading to a dead-end at the sea front with a huge overpass making it a darn ugly place (sorry folks who live there). But the location is perfect for travelling, just 5 mins walk from Fortress Hil MTR station, the HK tram, and the 10,000 buses plying King's Road with just 5 passengers in each. But you'll have a problem with taxis since its really tucked away in that darn ugly corner. try walking to the main road. Beware, the old goverment offices on Oil/Electric Road corner have been flattened. i guess the jackhammers will be coming in soon to build another skyscraper, so expect a noisy stay in the future

What a lobby...seriously Top 10, you can go ballooning in there. As glorious as the Peninsula in HK or Manila (with all that space, a few tables for afternoon tea would be cool)

The Staff are helpful, but long checkout queues in the morning

The bedroom is brand new, comfy bed, not too hard, but not squidgy enough for me. clean decor / carpets, decent big flattie telly, small desk with a glass top and plenty of power outlets in a power strip tucked into the side desk...i like that, no need to go searching around and pulling out table lamp plugs. theres also an adapter there for us out-of-towners. Both cabled internet cable and wifi were there, and included in my rate....fantastic.

bathroom was one of those pervy jobbies with a window for voyeurs, but an electric screen which can hide those who don't want to be watched. i like the seperate glass doored bath and shower area with a 12in over head sunflower shower. Tons of clean towels, hot water, toiletries etc.

The breakfast was fine, a spacious affair again, a bit limited choice of English breakfast items. staff try, but not trained / or language deficient. I struggled to get a breakfast tea, ended-up with japanese green tea. Don't expect too much

An amazing restaurant on the 41st floor, with European/French style dining, and probably one of the best views in HK (really....its a 230 degree view of the Harbour and Kowloon). Again, the waiters are much to be desired, never knowing when to assist, slow to attend. they are barely tea-shop quality staff.

Overall, i consider this a bargain for those who want 5 star luxury and dont mind staying in a crappy area

Room Tip: high and sea facing

I have stayed in this hotel 3 or 4 times on business in the past year - both alone and with my wife. It's in an "interesting" location which means you engage with local life as you go to and from the MTR (the street it's located on isn't called Oil Street for nothing!). As others have commented upon, the lobby clearly says "look at how much money we have spent, even in Hong Kong we can waste acres of it".

If you get a room facing west you will have spectacular views over Victoria Harbour, clearly the higher the floor number the more spectacular. I think you get a better return by paying for these rooms than taking one facing east and upgrading to club status. The club facilities are good - but breakfast in the regular restaurant has greater choice, and is much faster if you are under time pressure than using the club lounge.

The conference facilities are OK, although the aircon can be a bit problematic.

Excellent Japanese and Chinese restaurants.

Room Tip: Get one on the west side of the hotel as high up as you can.

The Hotel is in a good location 2 minutes from the metro station,ok the street is not glamorous but it is safe and the Harbour view is beautiful especially at night. The area is safe with lots of local life and restaurants. The reception entrance is amazing, terrific staircase and chandelier
We upgraded to a club room and it was worth every penny, the room was spacious and very comfortable. We had breakfast in the 188 degrees restaurant as the club lounge was not yet open after the fire, nor was the pool. the view from the restaurant is spectacular.
The other facilities were spot on, afternoon tea and cocktails were lovely. With a special thanks to Grace, Augustine and all the staff of the Club lounge they could not do enough for us. We loved Hong Kong and would love to go back, we would definitely go back to this Hotel again.

Impressive lobby, you can play football in there.
Check in was very smooth and nice.
I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights with a colleague.
Rooms were maybe a bit small but very clean and nicely decorated.
We stayed on 32nd floor with a nice view of the harbor.
I loved the shower which was simply located next to the bath tub , a glass wall separated this area from the rest of the bathroom creating a very roomy shower area.
Breakfast buffet was nice, food for Western, Chinese, Indian guests.
Almost everything you can think of was there, but I noticed that for some people there is always something to complain.
When I went for dinner on the 3rd floor I had to ask for the menu twice, but is this a big deal?
We had to pay 130kh$ per computer per 24h of WIFI. I was not pleased with this. WIFI should be free or at least free in the lobby or other area.
Hotel was close to Fortress Hill MTR station, less than a 5 min walk.
Bus to Central station / Airport Express station was for free.

My sister and I were so lucky to find this hotel, it is reasonably priced and the service is excellent. When you walk into the foyer you are greeted with a harpist playing halfway up the marble staircase, the most amazing chandeliers I have ever seen and the very friendly advice and help from the Head Concierge, Mickey. The hotel has four amazing restaurants, especially the on on floor 41 and the view is spectacular!! Highly recommended!!

Room Tip: upgrade to a room with lounges in it, so worth the extra room

GENERAL: I booked this hotel on recommendation of a travel agent who I use regularly, I had looked at lots of options but was happy to book this one. I did not regret my decision, this is a large, very smart, exceptionally clean hotel, just off Oil Street in HK. it does seem to have a bit of a mixed identity as a business hotel and holiday / wedding hotel, there was a wedding on every night I stayed, however this is not really a problem. There are enough other ' single' business travellers that you certainly don't feel awkward about sitting in the bars /restaurants on your own.

LOCATION: this is my first time to HK, Ive been working in an office in Central, which has on three occasions been only a 8-10 minute HK$ 40-50 trip away (note I was advised by reception that this trip would take 45 minutes on a Monday morning - NOT in my experience). The hotel is about three minutes away from Fortress Hill MTR station which is fantastic, and very very easy to find your way to (and use, for any other first time trippers to HK) It's also very near (almost opposite MTR station) the tram route which, for fun, is a fantastic and interesting way to get along to the Central (and beyond) area - highly recommended!

CHECK IN / ROOM I have read on here a pushy policy towards you upgrading your room - this is certainly true and I agree that after 24 hours travelling most people will agree to almost anything, beware, being on the harbour club floors does not in realty actually get you anything - except a bit of a better view, but when there's so much condensation on the windows or smog / fog outside its not really worth it. Upgrading to a Harbour Club room does not get you Harbour Club lounge access - I thought this was a little unclear / confusing. To get this access was another £250 + ... Worth it? Hmmm.

ROOM: very nice, very clean, excellent bathroom, with enough toiletries, regularly replaced. Good tea coffee making facilities, good towels, extremely comfortable bed and pillows. Good wardrobe inc. iron. Good tv with variety of channels, touch screen tv in bathroom. Great black out curtains. Overall I can't really fault it.

STAFF: I can't understand reviews on here criticising the staff, everyone I have dealt with has been extremely polite and aiming to please, if a little immaculate with info some of the time - see above. In general very good. Only small thing that irritated was a constant request to fill in feedback forms!! After threes days to seemed to had stopped!

FOOD / DINING / BARS: overall good. There something can't quite put my finger on regards breakfast, there's plenty of it and choice, but its just not very exciting, perhaps its that its pretty basic regards quality - I'm not sure - not very exciting sums it up really. Also ate in the 188 on top floor - again good, fantastic views, food good. Ate in here on the first night because it was late and I was tired, was not particularly tempted to try it again, but same as breakfast - good but not great. Lobby bar is nice, again though, just its not very exciting - a business hotel bar - fine.

OVERALL: good, not the place to book for a for a romantic getaway / holiday in my opinion (pool closed indefinitely) but an excellent base if you're on business with perhaps a few days spare to explore.
