My husband had a conference at the Hong Kong Institute and this was one of the hotels recommended due to its location, which was very convenient for the shuttle to the university. It is located in Sha Tin, the new territories, which is a ways from Kowloon and Hong Kong. But with the MTR (subway) right next door, it was convenient to get to all points in Hong Kong. One day, I bought a tourist pass which was good for unlimited travel on the MTR for a 24-hour period of time. I visited the Jade Market and the Woman's market and had a fabulous shopping experience at both. Remember to fine tune your bargaining skills -- deals can be made!
We were treated to a wonderful ride by our driver who picked us up upon arrival in the Hong Kong airport. A beautiful Mercedes with two cool bottles of water. A very comfortable ride after our 16 hour flight from the U.S.! We knew from this point on, we were going to have a great experience with the hotel. First class service from beginning to end.
We had a wonderful stay in a club room on the 24th floor. A very nice facility and the staff were wonderful. I've read a few reviews that complained about the staff. We did not find these complaints to be valid for us. Every day, we were greeted with plenty of smiles and always were asked how they could help. We enjoyed a high level of customer service during our stay.
The pool area is wonderful and all facilities were top notch. Our favorite part of the day was enjoying breakfast in the club lounge every morning. Beautiful views and again, wonderful staff. We also enjoyed the evening snacks in the lounge.
Our room was spacious and well equipped. The bed was comfy and we got excellent rest after our busy days. The bathroom had a separate spa tub, shower and separate toilet area. It was a lovely place to call home for our six-night stay.
We did the buffet dinner one night, which was excellent. Our first night, we got in too late to enjoy so we had a meal in the ala carte lounge. Good, but very expensive. It is true that nothing else, other than the subway stop, is around the hotel -- so they have you captive for dining opportunities. I had a dinner at Sha Tin 18 one night -- wanted so to be impressed but was not. Dinner was ok, service not so good and for $100 for just myself, I guess my expectations were too great to meet. This was truly the only negative of our stay.
I would recommend the Hyatt Sha Tin without reservation -- a good value and fantastic staff are the highlights.
