Went during CNY which was over the top- too many people. i could see the potential had there not been that many people. Advisable to go not on a holiday!

Take the ferry from pier 5, boats leave every 30 min. Only about 12hkd for the slow ferry (1hr)! We left on the 11:15 slow ferry and returned on the 3:45 fast ferry (30 min), which was plenty of time.

Rented bikes for 25hkd (really crappy bikes, so be sure to test them thoroughly before) and rode around the north and south parts of the island which took about 1.5 hours with stops. Nice ocean views and you could climb some rocks and some stairs to get a better view of the water/island.

Lots of good snacks on the island. Fresh mango mochi in the main square! Fresh fruit juices. Grilled octopus and squid. Tons of fish balls everywhere. Eat to your hearts content!

Great ferry ride over and back... Nice walk but a steep incline to top of hill to see the view but the rest of this experience was simply dreadful.... heaving with people, smelly, cramped, cheap, and generally a deeply disappointing day out.... Had walked the dragons back the day before and thought this would be a change but no.... should have returned to the dragon.

Cheung Chau Island is a great day, or even half day trip from the hectic pace of Hong Kong. It's a great area to explore. Seems like a world away from the big city. Would definitely go back. It was cheap to get there & didn't take long on the fast ferry from Central.

Makes a nice change to visit this island. I went duRing the New Year break so it was packed. Would have liked to sample more of the street food on offer but the queues were building.

Certainly recommend going there and taking a walk through the narrow streets. Only bicycles allowed no motorized transportation which adds to the peacefulness of the place.

Loved it. A great mix of walks around the island and interesting shopping and restaurants.

We took the fast ferry from Central and were there within 35 minutes. The town was really busy, which was not so surprising as it was Chinese new Year. It was nice to walk around town and observe life. There is a range of restaurants, though most are serve seafood.

There are two beaches, the one slightly further from town was quieter and nicer. We really enjoyed our walk along the miniature great wall.

We didn't stop at any one restaurant, but had frozen strawberries, crepes, and deep fried potatoes on a stick.

We will definitely go back some day when the place will be less busy.
