“A Great Island”
Reviewed May 22, 2013

I especially like Cheung Chau Island. There is so much going on . Plenty of cafes and restaurants although the market end is less crowded for these and less pricey.
Shops are interesting and there is so much fresh produce..Prices are cheaper then in Hong Kong.
There is a beach with showers and changing facilities. The festivals are special and the Bun Festival in May is especially interesting. It can be very noisy and crowded but has so much atmosphere.
Th fish market has some different types of fish and all fresh.
It is a charming place to unwind when there is no festival and sit on the waterfront and watch the people go by.
The ferries are frequent to central and a good price. On a sunny day take the ordinary ferry and sit upstairs it a great cruise.

“Great day out and escape from Hong Kong hustle and bustle.”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

I visited Cheung Chau for the day, got the ferry from Central pier 5. The journey took just less than an hour and the ferry wasn't too full, even though it was a lovely sunny day in January but not too hot.

The are lots of little shops selling all the usual touristy type souvenirs, most of which you can get anywhere in Hong Kong but it was still nice to walk around and have a look. We also went to a temple behind some basketball courts just down from where the ferry dropped us off which was very beautiful and small.

We hired bikes along the waterfront at a little store, and they came with a lock so we didn't lose them! The bikes themselves weren't the best I've ever ridden, but they were cheap and they did the job. The island is well paved so you don't need anything particularly special.

Later on we went for seafood along the waterfront again and as luck would have it we caught the sun going down which was very beautiful. The seafood was good, not the best I've ever had but certainly not the worst either, and was quite reasonably priced. We kind of picked a restaurant at random because they all looked fairly similar to us.

For dessert we went to a place called the Rainbow Cafe, which was a really cute kitschy kind of place which sells coffees and small dishes, as well as some really nice individual postcards. The food and drinks were perhaps a little over priced but we were treating ourselves!

“good afternoon trip out of mainland Hong Kong”
Reviewed May 10, 2013

took a trip out here on a sunny day. Had lunch by the harbour and hired a bike to ride round the island for about an hour. Ended up in a funeral procession but that's another story!

its greta chill out place: some good value resturants by the harbour and on the other side of the island where the hotel is.

i easily spent an enjoyable 3 hours plus lunch here and would go back when the rain stops in HK at present
