Good for: Romantic, Scenic view, Special occasions, Local cuisine, Business meetings
Dining options: Lunch, Late Night, Breakfast, Dinner, Delivery, Reservations
Neighborhood: Tsim Sha Tsui
Description: Reminiscent of an ancient family courtyard in one of Peking's fast disappearing hutongs (courtyard houses set between narrow lanes), Hutong's interiors are set against the most breathtaking skyline of any international metropolis. This is not the only surprise. The sense of adventure and sheer avant-garde creativity continues in the innovating cuisine inspired by the culinary styles of Peking and Shandong province.

“Spectacular but pricey”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

My daughter who now lives in Hong Kong chose this restaurant as her preferred dinner venue to celebrate her recent birthday. However, I am certain she chose it partly for our benefit as the views of Hong Kong island from our table were truly spectacular (especially the Symphony of Lights show which starts at 8pm daily) and the atmosphere in the dining area and in the rest rooms was also utterly enchanting. As it was her birthday we pushed the boat out a little with a double round of cocktails followed by a selection of house speciality dishes including deboned lamb, kale ginger and chili crab among others. Sadly the chili crab was a little too heavily chilied to my palate but all in all it was a very enjoyable meal befitting the special occasion that had brought us here. Of all the restaurants we visited during our 10 day stay in Hong Kong, this was easily the most expensive but on balance I think it was probably worth it for the atmosphere and the views alone.

“Pay for the view...”
Reviewed April 27, 2013

At this very expensive restaurant, you are basically paying for the view as the food left much to be desired. Both my wife and I asked for two different "Pork" plates, that although very flavourful, the meat was hard and 'chewy'. The waiters kept pushing the wine, hoping we were in the mood to order a second bottle, which was not our intention. It was difficult to hold a normal conversation as the place is as noisy as it can get. We (contrary to McArthur in the Philippines) shall not returning!

“my favourite restaurant in Hong Kong”
Reviewed April 26, 2013

And this is high praise as there are so many contenders! Hutong, hidden on the 28th floor of a shopping mall in TST, reproduces in its decor the atmosphere of the back alleys of old Peking. This is taken as far as the restrooms, darkly lit by lanterns only and with a wooden fountain to wash your hands that's a little hard to figure out at first.
The tables by the windows are the best as they provide a panoramic view of Hong Kong harbour, spectacular at any time, whether it's during the 8 pm laser show or in a tropical storm.
The menu offers great variety both for the adventurous and the more sedate palate. On this last visit my friend and I shared a tasting menu with pairing wines. Although smallish and all delicious, the many dishes soon proved too much for us, and the waiter kindly offered to pack up the rest so we could take it home.
The waiting staff is extremely professional, helpful and attentive.
If you're not afraid of hot spice try the signature Red Lantern: soft shell crabs with whole chillies. Amazing flavour and texture.

“Very good view of Hong Kong, very good food.”
Reviewed April 23, 2013

We went to Hutong on our first night, it is not as formal as you might think, the food was great, the view was fantastic, it was crowded and there was some noise... the place is hopping, not a sedated quiet and calm dinner experinece...it is on the go. There were many tourists and probably expats...a little hard to find, book in advance.

“Fantastic view with great food”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

This restaurant is located at TST on 1 Peaking Road. It is kind of hard to find unless you know it exists. It is within a commercial building on the high floor. It is very popular with many expats and locals.

Decor and atmosphere is fantastic. As it is on the high floor, it has a commanding view of the HK island. It is awesome if you stay there for the laser light show at 8pm.

Food is authentic and at reasonable price. The chilly soft shell crab is a must try! I will definitely come back here again.
