“Retro 60s HK style cafe”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

It is one of the oldest survived family run HK style cafe with genuine retro typical Hong Kong 60s style decoration with titled floor and old furniture. This kind of cafe appears in old HK and western movies of the 1960s. A lot of this kind of cafe has been pulled down and only a few survives these days. You visit for the sake of nostalgia. There are two storeys. The window tables on the second floor give a good view of the Temple Street Square and Temple Street. The food is just so so and so is cleanliness and the toilet. Usually I just go for an afternoon English tea with a toast with jam and butter. It is a good place to get a drink or snack before or after you go to the nearby Broadway Cinematique cinema or the Temple Street Night Market.

“retro cafe”
Reviewed August 16, 2013

it is a genuinely retro café, not a café that is purposely decorated in a retro style. my friends and i had the spare ribs baked rice, fried noodles with slice pork, milk tea, and yuan yang. food and drinks are so-so only, nothing fantastic.

“No way, for us”
Reviewed July 12, 2013

I must offer a very negative review. We were very pleased to get to this place after spending a few hours wandering around Kowloon on a hot summer day. It was nicely air-conditioned on the second floor, the 60's tiles decor was nice, and there was an impressive view of the temple out the window.

The service and food were a different story. Unhappy looking waiters stopped by very occasionally. The several dishes we ordered, including pork chop and eggplant, all came very slowly, and were lukewarm when delivered. All the dishes were covered with the same relatively unappetizing orange sauce. We did notice most of the other clients, mainly high-school or college-age kids during the weekday afternoon we were there, tended to order toast and sandwiches, which may be a better bet here.

What makes this a one star review were the bathroom facilities, which are not in good shape. I was able to use the pissoir which was kinda really grungy. The adjacent toilet requires a key, and my daughter opened the door to find a very wet rat which had likely just made the journey out of the loo. Memorable, anyway.

Nice decor, but I would recommend avoiding or at least approaching with caution.

“Worth to go for it”
Reviewed July 7, 2013 via mobile

With a group of friends, we went to this cafe to have our breakfast. For 4 of us, the total bill of HK$140 aren't very expensive. Perhaps, its because we went on a weekday, there isn't any queue for it. Polo bun with butter, french toast are the Must-Try items that I recommend.

“Great cafe in Temple Street”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

Mido Cafe is a very old HK-style cha chan teng, in the middle of the Temple Street night market. It's air conditioned, the staff are delightful, the food is good, the beer is cheap, and there's a view over the market and the temple. We had the shredded chicken dish and the pumpkin and pork, both excellent. Their famous baked pork chop was ok, but I probably wouldn't have it again. French toast, perfect, HK style. It's not what you'd expect for Chinese food, but for his style of restaurant it's very authentic. We've lived in HK for nearly 20 years, and had never been there before last week. And then this week again. Go, it's great.
