We ate here early on a Saturday afternoon after the stiff walk across the island from Yung Shue Wan. I was really looking forward to visiting the Sok Kwu Wan restaurants and, after a walk up and down the street we decided to go to the Rainbow. There were 2 of us and we ordered the crab with honey and pepper, razor clams in black bean sauce and steamed fresh grouper. We also took some steamed ong choi, boiled rice and a Tsingtao beer. Everything was exquisetly fresh and full of fantastic flavour. Service was good with the waiter offering advise and helping serve our grouper when he saw us struggling. We had a table right next to the waters edge and the whole ambiance during the meal was very relaxing. This was the most expensive meal I had in HK but by far the best, frankly I don't know if I paid more by being European and I couldn't care less as the whole experience was well worth what we paid.

Most of what we ordered was quite good, especially the scallops in garlic sauce and the fried squid in sweet and sour sauce. However, when ordering SQUILLA our waiter, Keven, recommended the extra large squilla because the taste was better, very special, so we went with it. The order bill said it would be HK$480, almost equal to everything else we had ordered together! We had ordered 2 squilla, but the bill implied we were getting 16. We asked about the cost and number and Kevin explained it had to do with the weight. We expected something unusually good, so we stuck with it. What arrived was average, ordinary, not much to it. Very disappointing. Then our final dish, which was a simple vegetable dish, was delayed for half an hour. We tried to cancel and they said it was coming. Finally we left with almost no time to catch the ferry. On our way out we saw squilla at another restaurant that cost 30 HKD per piece. That made sense. However now there is no time to go back and argue. Back at out hotel we found a similar complaint on Tripadvisor. Would not eat here again because of their dishonesty. Plenty of other fresh seafood restaurants on Lamma Island.

A nice view and a complimentary ferry ride is not bad, but be aware of their trick to take your money... Only get the set menu and items with set prices . even then you could be cheated... Anyway if you take care is not a bad place

They provide free ferry service that ply between their restaurant and places like Central Pier on Hong Kong Island and Tsim Sha Tsui Public Pier. Reservations for a meal at their restaurant and the free ferry tickets can be made online.

Very bad food experience at Rainbow-was grossly overcharged being a tourist ( paid almost 40 USD) for prawns. Fish was overcooked and was charged $2 additonal for sauces. My husband ordered a stir fry noodle dish that was overly greasy and flavorless. Staff was not welcoming or helpful, would not recommend.
