“Another pleasure stay.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2010

Was at The CityView a 2nd time with my wife for a 5-day stay from 21/7. Specially chosen this hotel for its great location and value (when we select our tour package). It is within walking distance (abt 10 mins) to the always-happening MongKok and yet direct bus can bring us to TST within 5 mins. MTR station is just mins walk too. There is even a public bus that bring us to Causeway Bay if one prefers not to take the ferry across HK Island. Amenties is suffice (except no ). I especially like the bathroom which is considered 'luxurious' for the rate we paid.
Definitely worth a try for those considering staying around the area.. :)

We stayed at The Cityview Hotel in May 2009. Three friends in two rooms on two seperate floors (4 floors apart!). The rooms were spacious, clean and offered great views. The matresses were a bit on the hard side, but after a couple of nights we soon forgot about that!!
The restaurant offered a god selection of food in the buffet. Breakfast was enough to set us up for the day with a mixture of eastern and western food. The seafood buffet we had was equally as delicious with a varied selection.
The lobby bar was a good place to socialise and relax, piano musice piped out from the automatic piano made it feel like a classical expensive hotel, generally out of our price range, but the atmosphere did not make us feel out of place.
There is an MTR station just outside the hotel. We used the MTR everyday. We felt very safe and comfortable; the London underground could learn a lot from how the MTR works!!
The MTR made it easy to move around Kowloon, Mongkok and Hong Kong Island. We would recommend using the MTR without a doubt.
We did do a lot of walking and exploring whilst in Hong Kong too. Visiting the night markets and the day markets.
Spending the day in Aberdeen on Hong Kong Island and at Stanley market and beach was a brilliant use of our time!!
The night time light show at the harbour was worth seeing, we feel that having already been and explored Hong Kong Island made the light show more exciting - seeing the buildings lit up and "dancing" to the music.
We had an included trip to Victoria Peak, which we loved and vowed to go back under our own velition. In our own time we did go back, but our journey was not direct. We went via the escalators!! everyone should experience the escalators running up the hill side to the mid town; a treat themselves. We also found a small botanic garden which housed a few gibbons and birds. Once back at Victoria Peak we took a walk and wondered at the beautiful views of Kowloon from the Island. Restaurants and shops at the top of the peak were worth a visit. The view out to the south china sea was also spectacular. Using the Vanicular train up and down the peak is a good idea and the views from the tram were spectacular.
Everyone should visit the Po Lin Monestary and the Bhudda and the Gnong Ping village. Travel on the 5km cable car for the best views of the island and the airport.
Having traveled so far, we also managed to visit Ocean Park, a mix of thrill rides and marine animals and pandas!!! A must do! We also visited Hong Kong Disney. Definitely an all Disney experience, smaller with a hint of the orient!.
Overall a fantastic mix of culture and scenery, a place we are all extremely keen to visit again. We all fell in love with Hong Kong!

For 3 years we have stayed at Cityview as we like the location. We have always stayed in standard rooms but this year upgraded and paid more ; to their refurbished rooms which included express check in, internet, breakfast + a free massage.
What a waste of money, they took booking several weeks ahead for king bed and 2 days prior to arriving said cannot do. As for express check in filled out the forms before arrival, but then on arrival had to still fill out address etc and was not given any vouchers. So went back to reception and asked for breakfast vouchers, told not needed, so every morning breakfast staff made comment we had lost voucher and we had to go through a explaining who we were etc. At reception asked for free massage voucher and told "oh you have to see the Duty Manager" no one there so guess what we didn't get what they promoted.
Back to breakfast, egg cook on his own, slow, always a queue and did not start until 15-20 mins after breakfast started, so guess what most people didn't get eggs. Choice of food has gone backwards too.
Coctail bar in the foyer, they have moved things around and put a working bench and screen between the staff and the customers so guess what you sit there waiting for service, can see the reflection of the staff in the bar mirrors just chatting, not servicing
(would mention here that the usual guy who has been here for a couple of years was off duty when we had this problem).
So all in all not happy, 3rd and last visit. If you just want a bed, at the cheap end it will be clean but if you want any kind of service and if you want a smile go somewhere else.

Stayed there for one week in 2 premier rooms with interconnecting door. The floor was quite and the rooms were comfortable. The size of the rooms was also good. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. The location was excellent as it was close to MTR and to all sort of shops. The staff specially concierge was very helpful.

Cityview is a great hotel because of its location. It is just around the corner from the Yua Ma Tei MTR station, which is super convenient because we used it every day. It is also walking distance from Nathan Road, which is where a lot of the shopping is. Ladies Market and Temple Street are also walking distance.

Rooms at the hotel are very good. I thought it was a bit small at first because we got use to it. They have an electionic device in the room which turns on the lights, tv, a/c with a touch of a button. The one thing is that they are stingy on tissue and toilet paper.

I highly recommend getting an Octopus Card, you can use it almost everywhere. The Octopus Card is basically like a credit card you already put money into and you can use it for the MTR, Airport Express, 7-11, Circle K and various other stores.
Once you are at the airport you take the Airport Express to the Kowloon station and from there you take the Free Airport Shuttle Bus (K5) to the Cityview Hotel. It comes every 20 minutes.

In regards to money exchange, I highly recommend NOT to exchange your money at the airport. There are plenty of money exchange booths near the hotel with much better rates. My sister and I totally got ripped off because we exchanged at the airport.

I couldn't believe that I was at the right hotel after all the great reviews. This was my first trip to HK and I didn't know anything about the various locations. Mongkok / Kowloon are very ‘local’ – not the typical tourist area you would think of staying (if I went again, I would stay in Central). The rooms were tiny, beds were rock hard, staff was inefficient, and the hallways smelled. I'm pretty easy going and make the best of any situation, but this was bad all around. I realized when we checked out (from my bill) that it was previously a YMCA property. Cityview was less expensive than similarly rated hotels, but I wish I had spent more to stay somewhere else. The one positive note: breakfast was good (included in our room rate)

We were optimistic about our stay at the Cityview after reading Tripadvisor, but after staying there for the past 4 nights, it really deserves only 3 stars, as in average. Not good, not bad, just average.

Positives:
* Good location - 1 minute walk from the Yau Ma Tei MTR exit A2, close to the Ladies Market and Temple Street night market, 7-11 at the corner, good baked goods place next door to that, and great cheap food nearby
* Air conditioning is plentiful and cool
* Free use of YMCA gym - we didn't use it though

Negatives
* Our toilet overflowed our first night and they couldn't have a room ready until 2pm the day after for us to switch to another room
* Air conditioning can't really be controlled outside of low medium high
* Wifi is expensive at $12USD per 24 hours, and for only one computer
* There were little flies in the room, though they didn't bother us
* The TV was broken

I guess you get what you pay for, but even for around $100 a night, it seems like it could be better.
