Gateway Hotel Hong Kong

Reviewed October 4, 2012

Having travelled to Hong Kong for our second vacation this year, Gateway was our first choice.

Travelling with family (incl kids) we spent 8 nights at the Hotel.

Gateway is located in Kowloon, TST and part of the massive Harbourside Shopping Centre. Luxury shopping, bargain shopping, fantastic restaurants are all at hand.

The Hotel is opposite Haiphong Road whereby a very short walk you will find the MTR (train) station. A short stroll away (up the street) is Victoria Harbour and the famous Star Ferries.

The tourist strip of Nathan Road is at the end of Haiphong Road (200m or so away)

On Haiphong Road is an entrance to the fantastic Kowloon Park....great for the kids with swimming pools and a McDonalds that sells ice cream and frozen drinks.

The pool is located at the "related" Marco Polo Hong Kong Hotel - a few minutes up the street.

The Hotel is currently undergoing renovations with the restaurant "Three on Canton" new since our last visit. Fantastic renovation...very modern and amazing range of food (at breakfast).

I would recommend spending a little extra and upgrading to a Club Room that provides access to the Continental Club Room. The Continental Club access provides afternoon tea (late lunch), evening cocktails and enough fantastic variety of food that if you choose, you would not need to go out for dinner.

With Club Room access, you have a choice of breakfast at either the Club Room or at Three on Canton (which has more variety).

The staff are a credit to the Hotel, only too willing to accommodate your request and provide advice about anything to do with Hong Kong.

Notwithstanding the Hotel is undergoing renovations (work is carried out only during the day) , the rooms are, in my opinion, good - very clean, tidy (housekeeping twice a day, plenty of toiletries and complimentary water etc.).

My next visit to Hong Kong will, undoubtedly, be at the Gateway.

Room Tip: Consider a Continental Club access room that will provide the additional benefits

The hotel is situated in the middle of Harbour City, which makes it ideal for shoppers. A 10 minutes walk will take you to the ferry terminal where you can take a ride to Hong Kong island or walk the opposite direction, to the China Ferry Terminal to go to Macau.

The room we were in was very clean and well maintained. The staff are very friendly and helpful which made our stay very enjoyable.

I stayed with my friends for 2 nights at the Gateway Marco Polo. The hotel is in a great location in Tsim sha tsui. I enjoyed staying on the continental club on 15th floor with complimentary drinks and snacks all day. The hotel is clean and modern. Staffs are extremely helpful.

I have just spent 3 days in this lovely hotel in Hong Kong. The most amazing breakfast was offered in the Three on Canton restaurant which is situated on third floor within the Gateway Hong Kong.

Upon arrival at the restaurant, one is greeted with warm and charm by a team of very professionally trained staff who is always friendly, well mannered young men and women to make the beginning of the day special.

Hot coffee is served immediately with delicious croissants. One can inspect the vast array of international breakfast with the freshest cereals, fruits and other yummy food.

The decor is very stylish and modern which makes the breakfast a special lift.

The concierge is a team of very able young men who would everything to make one's stay at this hotel a memorable experies.

Room Tip: Check with one's travel agent prior to the journey

Hotel staff and Duty Manager. Andy Wong were very helpful and handled our request as fast and as efficient as possible. They made sure we were comfortable in our room. We were a group of 11 and occupied 3 rooms. We requested for room transfers and it was done immediately. We had a sick friend with us and Mr. Andy Wong made sure she was comfortable. Up to the time that we had to leave, I only have good memories of Gateway Marco Polo!!!!

Gateway is a good location. Everything is within the area. Food, shopping. No need to go elsewhere if you are hiding from the heat or rain.

We stayed at the club floor. It is convenient there with a friendly staff. Breakfast, Tea time and cocktails are served so its a good way to relax after the shopping and sightseeing.

They also have a new restaurant / bar at the 3rd Floor called Three on Canton. Its new, cool and cozy.

Room amenities are complete, clean rooms, nice pillows and bed. They are due for renovation so I am sure once it is all done, it would be a totally new experience once more.

We stayed in the Gateway last Aug 1 -5, 2012. We booked this hotel through a Travel Agency and i think it was a bit pricey considering it didn't come with breakfast. The Check-in and Out was pretty fast. They also kept our luggage after we checked out since our flight was at night. Here's basically my Pros and Cons for this hotel.
PROS:
1. GREAT LOCATION. MTR, Ferry to Hong Kong Central and Macau are about 5 - 10mins. walk. Malls, shopping and restaurants can be found everywhere! Avenue of Stars is around 15mins walk. This place is in Tsim Tsa Tsui so everything you need is well within walking distance.
2. The Room is really clean and spacious with a big Sony Bravia TV. The beds and pillows were soft to provide you with a very good night's sleep. The bathroom is also spacious and complete with everything you need. Complimentary Water Bottles are provided everyday, you can even request room service for more.
3. Bus Shuttle Service - This free shuttle bus services takes you from the hotel to the KOWLOON Station where you can take the MTR Airport Express straight to the Airport in 30mins. Its very convenient and idiot proof, impossible to get lost. You also use the same way getting from the Airport to the Hotel.
CONS:
1. For the price we paid, I expected breakfast to be included. Sadly it didn't come with it.
2. A bit pricey. I think we paid 200 USD a night.
3. There are renovations going on now but they do it during the afternoons where you should be out exploring Hong Kong. So this didn't bother us that much but I think the other reviewers were bothered.

It was a good stay. Very convenient location and access. Rooms were above average. Though, I think it is a bit pricey since it didn't come with breakfast. The breakfast would have made it 4 DOTS for me.
