Renaissance Hong Kong Harbour View Hotel
Ranked #28 of 729 Hotels in Hong Kong
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed August 21, 2014

Stayed at this hotel in Wan Chai although it is technically the red light district, it was a lovely area.
Lots of food places, grocery stores and transport available within walking distance.
The rooms are a lot smaller than what I was used to, but considering the population it is very understandable.
It is reasonably priced and the service is good, the first night I arrived in Hong Kong happened to be "National Day (October 1'st)" and all the main roads were shut off for fireworks and street celebrations. The staff kindly collected our bags from about 4 blocks away and lead us to the hotel. Although it was a minor inconvenience, the view from our hotel room with the fireworks over the harbour were spectacular.
Also, if you love dumplings they have amazing dumplings in the breakfast buffet, or there is a roadside store next to 7/11 across from the hotel who sells small buckets of freshly made dumplings really cheap. They are amazing.

Room Tip: Get the harbour view side!

Dear PerthTraveller1997

Thank you for sharing your stay in TripAdvisor.

We regret the inconvenience of the National Day, but we are happy that you had great experience
with the firework display. Our hotel is one of the best places to watch the show in Hong Kong. Glad that you enjoy the dumplings.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

In fairness this is a great hotel with great rooms and location but somehow disappointingly inflexible for business travellers. Checkin at the Marriot Rewards checkin counter took much longer than normal checkin. Assigned Room 3713 with a great view of the harbour. A colleague skipped the Marriot Rewards checkin counter since it was faster to checkin at the normal checkin counter. For business reasons, I requested for a 4pm late checkout and indicated that I am happy to pay a late checkout fee or any fee to compensate the hotel for my late checkout. Received the usual reply as to why they cant accommodate my request. For someone who spend a great deal of time travelling on business, I truly appreciate those hotels that go out of their way to exceed customer's expectation and request (Grand Hyatt Singapore - you rock!) and then there are those hotels like this one which simply doesnt get it. As for Renaissance Harbour View, my team will skip you next time for other more business friendly hotels.

A great hotel with super facilities. It's worth booking a room on the Club Floor so that you can get access to the fantastic food and drink offerings in the Club Room. The gym is one of the best hotel gyms I've used. However, it was the concierge staff in particular who made our stay. We relied on them for restaurant reservations and advice on seeing the city on the couple of days that my boyfriend wasn't working. The service of Issac in particular, one of the concierge team, was outstanding. Not only did he access us reservations at some of the best restaurants in town at super late notice - he also saved the day having us rescued from The Peak helping us make our flight home that he would have otherwise have missed! An absolute super star in every way.

I have been coming to Hong Kong since 1996, 3-4x a year and have tried myriads of hotels. Anyone will agree that hotels in this city are not cheap but more importantly, the rooms can be cramped and facilities often don't match expectations.

I booked a Club Floor room, was escorted to the 41st floor for a private check in and the access to the Club lounge is a must. You can go there virtually at anytime and it has a great range of F&B. the evening cocktail is a must and it is fantastic for meetings or wind downs.

So, imagine how pleased and happy I was to finally have found a hotel that is worth the money thatI paid for. The room is very well laid out, everything worked well, bed and pillows are great and service is INCREDIBLE. Room service food was good on a particular night I was too lazy to venture out.

One more thing, anyone will know that gyms are an afterthought in most hotels in Hong Kong. You can lost more weight shopping than trying creaky treadmills in the hotels. Well, the gym in this hotel is better than most professional ones, the latest in the equipments including the weights.

Renaissance Harbour View has been a huge pleasant surprise for me.

Thank you for a wonderful stay!

We stayed at the Renaissance in Hong Kong for 5 nights. It was a 35min taxi ride from the airport. Arriving at the hotel was great, as the staff had a big smile on their faces and took care of the luggage right away. The check in was quick and we went to our room. I was expecting a nice room, but the moment we opened the door it was a beautiful surprise; The View was the best. 34th floor harbour view. It was stunning. It was definitely one of the high moments of our trip.
Location is perfect, as I had a few meetings and most of them were a walking distance from the hotel, using simply the footbridges. The ones in Kowloon, were also close, as you can take the ferry across the Harbour and the Wang Chai ferry station is a 2 minutes walk. In fact, I could see the ferries coming in and out from my window.
Somehow, they knew it was my birthday on friday, and around 6pm, the Navigator(Bernard is a golden key concierge) sent me a happy birthday cake that was to die for. My wife knew nothing about it.
The days I was not working, were great for going to the markets, one day trip to Macau and to enjoy the Symphony of lights across the harbour from Kowloon side.
I am a big fan of the Marriott brand and this stay was simply the best. I will stay at the Renaissance Hong Kong again.

Room Tip: I love high floor views, and the Harbour view room at the 34th floor was spectacular.

Arrived to a lovely welcome and treated ourselves to a spectacular high tea in the lobby while the rooms were made up.

We had interconnecting harbour view rooms with stunning views. The pool area (shared with the Grand Hyatt next door) was simply lovely and all of the staff were so helpful and friendly.

The hotel is on the north side of Hong Kong island so away from the main Kowloon shopping and restaurant areas but only 5 minutes from the cheap-as-chips Star Ferry terminal and 10 minutes at most from the super-efficient underground.

The only downsides of the whole stay? We took breakfast in the hotel dining room just once because of the cost (70 UKP+ for a family of 5) but wanted it every day simply because it was so delicious and so varied. And when we checked out there was confusion about the whereabouts of our stored bags which delayed us on the way to the airport but it wasn't a big deal and the staff were very apologetic.

Overall a great start to our summer away. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Upper floors, harbour view

Musty smell & Poor service!
Booked and paid for hotel room on Agoda for 3 (three) adult persons.
Clearly showed 3 adults on booking!
Husband, wife and 18 year old son.
When we arrived they told us the room only had one double bed or 2 singles.
They told us we could either have the 3 of us stay in one double or 2 single - our choice!
Or if we wanted to pay an extra 400 hkd per night then they would supply us with a fold out bed.
We argued for some time about the fact that we clearly booked and paid for a room which very clearly showed 3 adults on the booking, and that it was clearly wrong to accept a booking for 3 adults with 2 single beds or 1 double and that it was morally wrong to attempt to charge more for the room after we had booked and paid for it and when we have arrived at 8 oclock at night after travelling for 11 hours.
They then told us that the 3 of us would have to sleep in either one double or 2 singles and asked to choose which.
We then disputed for some time that in this calibre of hotel that they should expect 3 adults to sleep in one double or 2 singles, and after demanding our money back so we could move to a different hotel which would supply bedding for 3 adults, they finally agreed to put a fold up bed in our room.
After spending more than 20 minutes trying to check in they sent us to our room and sent a housekeeping lady up with a fold out bed. When we all went in to the room, firstly, the musty smell was overwhelming.
It was obvious the bed would not fit in the room in the configuration it was in. The housekeeper shrugged her shoulders and wheeled the bed out of the room after we rang the desk and informed them that it was not possible to put the bed in unless someone removed the couch from the room and even then it was a squeeze.
We sat in the room for a further 10 minutes waiting for them tomtell us what was going to happen before leaving and going downstairs to find out what was going on.
It took another half an hour before we finally got another room - no bigger - but they agreed to move out the couch so we could fit a bed in.
We went out for an hour to allow this to happen.
We complained to reception that this room was too small really to take 3 adults. The reception told us that this was the biggest room the hotel had, yet when we asked one of the other staff they said "no... There are other rooms much bigger!"

The hallways smelt musty.

After 3 days, we left and moved into the Nathan Hotel which was great.
We booked this on Agoda for 3 adults. No problems. Simply checked in.
Room was excellent. 1 king size bed and one single bed in a room which was twice the size of the Rennaissance and which had a sliding door between the beds/rooms.

Cost was USD$50 less per night AND breakfast for 3 was included - unlike the Renaissance.
Staff were very friendly at the Nathan. Staying there for a week.
Next time:Just STAY AT THE NATHAN.

Room Tip: Rooms smell musty in August / Do NOT book for more than 2 persons. Expect to pay for more than it...
