At Kaetsu, to our surprise, we can find the taste of Kyoto, where traditional Japanese cusine is served in its most original and highest form.
The wonderfully designed seasonal menu by Chef Yukio Takeda, the Chef de Cusine of Kaetsu, are always impressive, from Spring Kaiseki to Winter Japanese Hot pot, featuring the best seasonal ingredients, are beautifully presented with accents of seasonal colour. Along with the excellent service offered by the Manager Mandy and her team of wonderful staff including Angus, Mon, Ponny, Symus, Eden, Twinkie and Vincent, making every single visit to Kaetsu an enjoyable one.
Unlike some of those fanciful Japanese restaurants in Hong Kong which use only strong artificial seasoning to make their dishes taste 'good', Kaetsu always manage to preserve the most natural flavour of their finest ingredients with relatively light and natural seasoning. A combination of simplicity and culinary aesthetics! (in this way, we can always taste the real flavour and the freshness of the food, just like the authentic Japanese cusine, which is to me, a real blessing, especially in Hong Kong!)
Thanks to Chef Takeda's team of brilliant chefs. The sushi and sashimi prepared by Sushi Chef Ming and Chef Lun are always super fresh, yummy and beautifully arranged, really a pleasure to look at before having a mouthful bite. While the Oyakodon 親子丼 (steamed rice with chicken and egg) and beef don 牛丼 with authentic Japanese taste, prepared by Chef Hoi are the best ever we have in Hong Kong!
The Tempura 天婦羅dish and 焼き物 the grilled seafood/ meat dish prepared by the very experienced Chef Nam are amazingly good. The grilled kinki fish, recently featured in the seasonal dinner menu is superb.
Also worth mentioning is their newly added Vegetarian Set (精進料理) with lovely vegetarian sushi and beancurd sheet pot as well as the very delicious Sesame Tofu 胡麻豆腐 delicately made by Chef Fai and Chef Hung, which taste almost like the one we have in the renowned Tenryu-ji Temple in Kyoto! Pretty amazing!
The versatile restaurant also has a Teppanroom, featuring creme de la creme fusion teppanyaki cusine, even though a bit expensive, it definitely worth a try, as the skillful chefs there, led by masterful Chef Fei, will cook in front of you with heart and again, with all the fresh ingredients from Japan and all around the world.
The friendly staff in Kaetsu always remember what food you like and dislike, food allergies and etc. even though you have only told them once. It is definitely a restaurant worth visiting again and again!
