“Great food, reasonable prices”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

This is one of my favorite places in HK. It is at the 2nd floor of Happy Valley's wet market. It is not fancy at all, quite the contrary. You will seat on plastic chairs and there is a toilet paper roll on the table in lieu of napkins. I like to take friends who are visiting Hong Kong because it gives them an idea of a local restaurant, away from the fancy places. Most importantly the food is amazing. I've heard their chicken is good, but I go there for the seafood. The prawns with garlic and chili are really good. Best time to go is dinner time, but don't go too late because they often run out of some items. At lunch time, it is very crowded, hot and noisy.

“dai pai dong”
Reviewed July 4, 2011

Dai pai dong is a type of open-air food stall once very popular in Hong Kong.
The market in Happy Valley is quite small, so you will always find the hall crowded with food lovers. Gi Kee is at the start of the food hall and is also known as ‘The Celebrity Canteen’. In addition to medium-priced home-style dishes, they sell high end seafood such as King Crab, Prawn and Steamed East Star Grouper Fish.
These are the main attractions for customers, who return time and time again. The house specialty is Garlic Shallot Fried Chicken, which, with its crispy skin, soft meat and strong garlic scent, is perfect with rice and beer.

You have to have their trademark sharksfin with chicken soup. Otherwise their steamed garoupa, razor clam, braised fish and prawns with ee-fu noodles are also pretty decent.

Highly recommend the shark's fin soup (with chicken), mantis prawn fried with pepper and salt, wind sand chicken, bamboo clams with garlic, lobster noodles, braised fish. And reasonably priced too
