I traveled with a Gate1 tour group in April. We probably stayed around an hour at this museum and that was plenty of time for me. If you are a history buff and want to see more of the Chinese-US perspective of the war, than this museum will probably be pretty interesting to you. All of the photos were clearly explained in both Chinese and English. I didn't really know much about General Stilwell before coming to this place and I honestly can't remember much of what I learned. However, this is probably due to a lack of interest on my part rather than any default of the museum. There were some nice views of the river from outside of the house that kept my attention. I guess that is why Stilwell chose this place! Overall, I don't regret going - it was relatively cheap, only took a small amount of time, and showed me some things that I never knew about. This museum did peak my interest in the Soong sisters so I might have to check out the movie about them sometime soon.

It is a matter of pride for the Chinese people, that during WW2 they successfully drove out the hated Japanese. At that time Chongqing was the most important city in China. It was from here the Chinese and the allies directed the Asian forces. The American General Stilwell, the flying tigers and Mitchell's marauders are all celebrated in this museum. The house in itself is unremarkable, a sizeable concrete dwelling built in the post Qing era from concrete, although the setting is great with good views of the river. The museum, although it does have some rooms furnished from the period is basically a pictorial history of the war from the perspective of the Sino-US forces. It is bilingual and interesting although some of the photographs are of dubious quality. On the other side of the road is the Flying Tigers exhibition, which is also interesting and includes some souvenir shops. Easy to find, Tongyuanju station on Line 2 , exit A and then a teo minute walk. 15rmb for the museum and 5rmb for the exhibition. Good value if you like that sort of thing.

The photo collection in the former home of General George Stilwell is amazing. Original photos from before the war and during his tenure in China are totally worth stopping here to see.
There is a gift shop with art work by local artisans that is also worth a stop. But the best thing is the home of the general and the photos.

Its nice to pay respect to the General and learn about the special bond between the US and China during WWII, but you can read about it online, and learn about this unique collaboration between China and the US in the 1940's. Its just a well preserved residence of General Stilwell, with a low quality display of photos, documents, etc. With all due respect, I can't say its worth one's time, unless they are into history and military.

The museum is in the residence of General Stilwell, the Commander of the US forces in China in WW2. It shows a part of history that seems to have been forgotten in China. It is not a large museum and is easily accessible via the monorail
