Too many people! It wasAA rainy day.
Was happy to see how pro active China was towards tourism.
A lot has been done to support the locals

“Bright lights and fancy stores”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

Near the memorial there are luxurious shops such as LV, Gucci and stuff like that.
We were there in the evening and it looked really nice, but nothing special....
If you have limited time in Chongqing, I would skip this square and memorial...

“Liberation monument”
Reviewed October 14, 2012

This tower is a symbol of the liberation of chongqing from the Japanese. It is located in the center of jiefangbei, the downtown of the city. The plaza is full of local tourists. This is supposed to be a park-like walkway but cars still cross. Surrounding the monument are tall modern buildings housing high-end brands like Gucci , loui vuitton, ferragamo etc. there is also KFC, Starbucks hagebdaz.

I guess the monument has emotional significance to the locals but other than that , it has not much architectural or aesthetic value.

“The tallest building in town”
Reviewed June 25, 2012

The monument USED TO BE the tallest tower in town....that was about 15 years ago, things have changed. A source of pride for Chongqing, as it was rebuilt many times during WW2 after being bombed. The people here rebuilt it to show they could not be defeated. The plaza around it is the activity center of downtown.

Reviewed June 13, 2012

Just to sit and see the light, have something nice to drink on your hand...that's enough :)
