This square, which really is more like 2 large area, has great shopping, splendid views of the buildings at night and several good restaurants. I preferred it over the more up-scale downtown plaza.

There are many malls. You can find everything there, from global chains (starbucks, KFC, Japanese goods, Rolex, Prada, New Zealand Ice Cream) to supermarkets where you can buy local and overseas produce. Definitely worth the visit for retail therapy.

Walking around Jiefangbei Square is like walking out of a football stadium except there is no football game. It's always very crowded. If you don't mind the walking bumping into others or others into you, you should go take a look. This is pretty much the old down town of Chonqing.

It's called walking street in Chinese, means no automobile allowed. There are a lot of shopping mall in this area, also you can find some nice restaurant around. You may be disappointed if you want to find something special cause almost every Chinese city has it. However, it's worth a trip since it's the most famous place in Chongqing.

Initially it is interesting to see the Chinese approach to the western style shopping plaza, until you realise it is mostly the same as anywhere else in the world. Lots of chic shops which you can find anywhere, and all the usual Mcdonalds/Starbucks/Subway franchises. However the scale is impressive and the lighting of the high rise buildings at night is pretty. But there are a few interesting shops scattered around if you look hard enough. The hidden gems are underground. There is a whole plaza beneath the park where the global brands have not ventured. That is well worth a visit, plus it is away from the heat in summer. One interesting attraction up top is the dancing fountains choreographed to a selection of martial and operatic music every hour or so. I'm not sure if it is good, but it is interesting.
