The whole area is captivating, the history, the unique structures against the cliffs high above the river. But check the prices of your purchases, including meals, before you place your order, or you might end up paying ten dollars (58 RMB) for a bowl of meatless soup. It was a big bowl, but one I'm used to paying no more than 20 RMB elsewhere in China.

Mostly tourist stuff, not really quality items. International food is an attraction for some foreigners. The cramped, local, food street is a good reason to go. Easy to get to from the pedestrian street at the monument.

Hongya Cave is a structure by the Yangtze river. I never understand why they call it "Cave" since I don't see any. But, the structure itself is very unique, and shows all the "Shan Cheng" (aka Mountain City) characteristics. A lot of local authentic food and souvenirs. If you like hiking, you should take a cap stop a the bottom by the river, then start walking upwards....my kids love it...

I personally think this is a must visit in ChongQing. The architecture is so quintessentially Chinese, you must see it in person to appreciate. The place is divided in many levels, containing restaurants, markets, shops, and hotels.

I recommend visiting late in the afternoon, after a stroll on through the market, you can settle in at one of the Hot Pot restaurant places and enjoy the river view.

The place is strange but worth seeing the cave part at the side was cool to climb up through.
It was very busy when we went and a little disappointing when you get to the top and find a branch of subway.
