“We call it Wonderful!”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

We have enjoyed spending time in the Hohai Lake area. Our friends at The Orchid House recommended we dine here and we were very glad we did. It is nestled back in the hutong away from the crowds. Yunnan style offers so many flavors we had a hard time selecting our dishes. There are english words printed on the menu, so ordering is easier.
The spring rolls were so good we ordered another round. The spicy stir fry rice, mushrooms and beef dish were my favorites. A bottle of Rosemont Shiraz made the evening!
It may not have a name, but we loved it!

“Superb Yunnan cooking”
Reviewed April 23, 2013

Close to the Qian Hai bridge between the 2 lakes, but one hutong back from the tourist strip. Great rooftop terrace to watch the sunset across the hutong roofs and fabulous Yunnan cuisine in the restaurant below. Menu has pictures with English sub-titles, otherwise full of locals. Very popular so booking advisable. Prices closer to Western than local, but worth it.

“Delicious way to bring in the NY”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

We organised No Name for a big group of us this week (35). We pre-ordered the food because with such a big group we thought it would be easier and they were wonderful. Food was piping hot, tasty and the setting just lovely.

Hohai Lake at Chinese New Year is by far the best place to be and No Name was a great place to see the fireworks - We've been here for lunch though and the service and atmosphere was just as great.

Foodwise we ordered many of our Yunan favourites - Mango Chicken, Cheese, Mushrooms, Smashed Fish, Ghost Chicken Salad, Beef Jerky, Slow beef, Beef and Mint, Pineapple Rice, Ham Rice.... the list goes on but every single dish was delicious! They have a decent selection of wine and beer - all the right ingredients for a good night out.

“Excellent food experience”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

We arrived off the TSR and stumbled onto to No Name quite by accident, but how glad we were that we did! The food we had was incredible! Chrysanthemum salad was the surprise hit, but the sticky black rice in pineapple and the chilli beef were a delight.

Wash down with beer - anything else would be weird!

We sat on the top floor as the sun went down over the Hutong - it was the perfect way to end our trip!

“Casual, subtle, strong flavours”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

Definitely worth the time it takes to find this place. We were greeted by a seemingly not-so-friendly staff but don't be fooled by the language barrier: they're just quiet and relaxed. Once we ordered, we were treated very well. Chinese culture doesn't rely on doting so if you want something, wave them down or smile. They don't even expect gratuity in China so I think some of the reviewers here sound a little high maintenance. Strong flavours in all the dishes. Spicy means spicy. But not overpowering.

We had: coconut curry dumplings, Beef tenderloin Dai style, beef flank wrapped in mint, fried rice rolls, fried goat cheese and proscuitto, organic wild salad, Kunming pork and garlic, wild mushroom assortment sauteed in banana leaf...

Food and vegetables were fresh and organic. At the end of the meal, their labrador Yogi came over to check up on us.

We went again tonight as it was hot so we sat on the rooftop patio and watched the sunset. Great views, quiet and the food again was excellent. She recognized me immediately and the service was so fast. The food just kept coming. And it's not expensive. Dishes range from $4 to $9 USD. With tip, tax, beers and 5 dishes, it came out to $50 CAD/USD for 2 tonight. Not sure why people are saying it's pricey. I'm Chinese and the dishes are authentic and without a lot of fuss.
