Even if you don't have a ticket to watch a performance in the NCPA, head there for some great photos (particularly at sunset). Bring a wide-angle lens as the grounds around the building is quite cramped so you won't have a lot of space to back out into for a panoramic shot of the NCPA. The interior, quite honestly, isn't as spectacular as its exterior so unless there is a performance you particularly want to watch, don't break the bank buying a ticket. You can also wander into the ticketing area of the NCPA from its north entrance. The NCPA can be reached by telling the taxi driver you want to go to "The Egg" as it is commonly known amongst the locals.

The fee is so expensive! Very close to The Tien Anmen. Just walk crossing street to the left of The pic. of Mao.

Stunningly beautiful building - ignore the signs, you can ride bikes around the outside - the building sits in a moat.
Buy a ticket for a show - or I think you can maybe even just buy one to have a look around - and go inside too. There is a ticket office inside the building - you will often be lucky and pick one up - actually, you can even call them and ask they what they have and they will hold them for you without payment.
Anyway, inside you'll see the most amazing marble floors and walls ... an incredible wooden ceiling ...
Be warned though, attending a concert or theatre event in Beijing is not quite the hushed affair you may have experienced in other countries - the chattering and moving around of the audience can take some getting used to...

The NCPA is constructed to resemble a pearl. It is close to the Tiananmein Square, just ashort walk away. The entrance is under an underpass below a waterbody which cleverly lights up the main lobby which you enter subsequently. Ther are several modern sculptures of high quality as well as several exhibitions of masks, clothes and pictures of different operas.
Inside the building climbs higher and higher, each floor the entrance to various photograph collections and other memorabilia. The architechture is remarkable .
To my mind one of the memorable buldings of the world.

I suggest you go to see a performance. If not, you better admire it on the outside.
Great building, fantastic design!
If interested in construction design, architecture, this is a must.
