I understand this hotel opened in January 2013. I went to see the rooms end April, The word that comes to mind after viewing this hotel is fresh. The bathrooms are immaculate, the tiling brand new black slate, and everything very... fresh. Stylistically classic, this hotel has an understated more modern elegance when compared with the generally kitsch, red-lantern and polyester Hutong hotels I have seen so often on the net. Full bath tub and mod-cons like air con, flat screen, (Chinese TV sucks but if you know how to connect your PC, you've got home cinema.) This hotel is a welcome reprieve from the bustle of the busy Hutong. Starbucks is downstairs but its really nicely done, doesnt look like a Starbucks and lets face it, that's very convenient. So while I stayed around the corner, this will be a top choice for my next visit. Do consider.

Pros
Modern hutong hotel
Large, well-appointed rooms
Quiet
Reasonable value for money
New, new, new...and fresh

Cons
No wifi in rooms?

The location is fun for a couple of nights, but the hotel staff lacked basic English, and I just generally felt that we were being taken for a ride by the hotel owners. Had to sit in unused restaurant as no wifi in room. No restaurant except basic breakfast. Rooms were quiet and beds ok, but really not worth money. Reception staff did try, but it was frustrating. There is much better value for money out there. Their other hotel in same area courtyard 7 was more charming, but be careful that when courtyard 7 full that they don't put you here.

the Guxiang 20is a small Chinese managed hotel in Nanluogu Xiang. This Hutong street has been nicely restored and is chock a block full of interesting shops, bars and restaurants. The whole area is nice to explore with interesting hutong side streets. The location is excellent which is why I chose to stay here. If you want a more traditional place to stay in the same area ( rather than small hotel style ) also look at Courtyard 7. The location of the Guxiang 20 is a bit better tho as you are closer to Gulou Dongdajie. From there it is a short walk to the Drum and Bell Towers and the Qianhai and Houhai Lakes areas.

The closest subway is Beixinqiao which is a 15 minute walk. If you are using taxis and have luggage the taxi will drop you out of the front of the hotel. Otherwise taxis were easy to get on Gulou Dongdajie. you can also walk to the Ghost Street ( Dongzhimennei Dajie) restaurant street in 25 minutes. This street is chock a block full of restaurants and very pretty at night, all lit up with red lanterns.
We were traveling with 2 teenage girls and booked 2 luxury rooms on the top (4th) floor. These came with a balcony and were nicely furnished in excellent condition. The view from
the balcony was slightly obscured by a roof top tennis court but I can imagine it would be pleasant to sit out there on a warm evening - staying in cold December we did not utilize the balcony. The beds were huge and very comfy. We bathroom was very nice, clean and there was no smell but it did lack a PowerPoint. The air-conditioning was in Chinese with no English instructions. the staff are excellent and very helpful and there was always someone who could speak English.
The only thing that let this hotel down was the breakfast. It was plentiful and nicely set out but the hot food was stone cold. It sat in the Baine Marie until guests showed up and then they lit a burner too late to heat it up. it is best to stick to freshly cooked eggs by the chef and toast I'd you want something hot.
A great stay and we will return for the location.

Stayed here for 3 nights.

It's located near the clock and drum tower of Beijing on 1 side of the street.

On the other side of the street is the nearest underground train,at BEIXING QIAO station, which is about 15mins walk away from the accomodation. A 1-way train ticket costs CNY$2. I found cabs quite easy to catch on either side of this street. Starting fare was CNY$10 and CNY$10 covers quite a distance before the meter starts working. A trip from hotel to tian-an-men (or the Forbidden City/ ' GU GONG') cost CNY$16 -> I took a cab this morning to Tian An Men at 0615hrs to catch the flag raising ceremony (check daily times on internet). There's the accompaniment of the military band on the 1st of every month. You will see a huge crowd gathering for this event.

When it comes to food, there's plenty for you to choose from surrounding this neighbourhood.

I paid approx CNY$600 per night at this accomodation and they gave us a room with a balcony view of the hutongs. Breakfast provided. This was excellent because the sky was lited up with fireworks on the 15th day of the lunar new year and these fireworks went on from the aftenroon till at least 1am. We found this a very suitable time for tourist to sample the local celeberations. Oh, and it started snowing too!
