“great japanese food in china”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

great sashimi, and hotpot. tempura was passable, not the best, shrimp were not the freshest. however ambience was great, a nice relaxed vibe that wasn't too chaotic that one sometimes sees in crowded restaurants. a good space

“Simply the best Sushi in town”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

Based on a hint from a very nice person, I went with some friends to the Hatsune.
And, I was simply impressed. Impressed by the ambience, impressed by the friendliness of the employees, impressed by the variety of Sushi (asf.) in the menu, and obviously also impressed of the quality of the Sushi's.
One week later, we went again with a group of more then 20 guests; everybody was really happy with this Sushi restaurant.
For me personally, the best Sushi I ever had in my life (worldwide!).

“Alan(The owner) has really done a Great Job over the years”
Reviewed September 13, 2013

I remember when no one went to this place. Alan had to go to embassy to embassy to promote his Sushi.

Now it's one of the must go places if you are living in Beijing.

Alan a ABC or Taiwanese American depending on your view comes from California. He opened up Hatsune more than 10 years ago.

The oldest one is a little east from the China world.

The food while it's gotten really expensive over the years has stayed consistent. The success of this place is from its great service and consistent food.

Sure there are millions of other Japanese places popping up all over Beijing now, but hey if you want something that you know will taste good again and again you go to Hatsune.

At least you know you will get the fresh stuff, as they won't put out bad food.

Now depending on which one you go the one in San Li Tun or the one at Guang Hua Road, you might get different types of service.

Occasionally at the San Li Tun branch the service is sub par. But the one at Guang Hua road is always good.

Summary-

Consistent with good Service. A business type lunch or a good first date.

On the weekends it has all you can eat.

“Bad Service, Poor Sushi and Pricey”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

After reading good reviews about Hatsune we decided to try it out. We were not impressed by the bad service. The wet towels given to us before the meal were left at our table through our entire meal in the way of the food. The maki was very average and rather tasteless. We tried 4 different sushi dishes with all being average to poor quality and taste. We also had sashimi which was the only nice dish. After finishing our first cup of tea we were never asked if we would like more tea. The service was so poor, although having so many staff, that we would not recommend this restaurant. The price was also pricey for the average quality of sushi. The only nice thing about this restaurant is the atmosphere and decorations.

“Great location and atmosphere”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

I have been many times in the Sanlitun branch of Hatsune in Beijing. The atmosphere in this restaurant is great also while located within the Sanlitun shopping area so its perfect for a weekend lunch. The Sushi / Sashimi is not true Japanese style but good quality for Beijing. However you have to consider a pricetag of easy 50 USD per head for which the value becomes less and less attractive (but thats common in Beijing during the last years).
