The JW Marriott is my Beijing home. It’s away from all the madness and located within the CBD or financial hub. The Ritz Carlton is next door, but I like the atmosphere of the JW better. The metro is less than 5 minutes walk and will be able to connect you to all parts of Beijing, including the sights and sounds. In addition, there are numerous local shops within a few block and several local food outlets where you can really get some local flair. If you dare!
Furthermore, there’s a Walmart less than 15 minutes from the hotel, where you can get all your essentials and/or just to see what Walmart is like in China. There are several shops across the highway where you can grab pizza, noodles and more importantly a SIM Card for your iPhone if you need one. Only China Unicom will work and there’s a China Unicom store within 5 minutes.
There’s a mall across from the hotel with some of the world’s top designers. Within the mall is also a upscale supermarket, Starbucks and Costa Coffee. If you venture downstairs, you’ll find the food court and there’s a great selection of authentic and local chains and food. If you walk further down the food court, you’ll find the fast food section with Subways, KFC, Burger King and etc.
The hotel always upgrades me to the 1 Bedroom Executive Suite regardless of the room I book. The room itself is very spacious and will be more than sufficient if you plan on entertaining guests. There’s a full bathroom with a separate walk-in shower and tub along with a large sink area. There is also another bathroom by the entrance of the room if the main one is occupied or for guests.
As a Platinum Premier member, I get the option of eating at the restaurant or lounge and I always frequent the lobby restaurant for Breakfast and it is stellar! There is nothing like it in Beijing, the selection is simply extraordinary. It can get pricey if it’s not included in your room rate, but I highly recommend trying to get it comp. If it’s not included, the breakfast will set you back approximately $36 USD or RMB227.
The gym is another great feature of the hotel and it’s open 24hrs with all state of the art equipment. However, the pool isn’t, but it’s definitely a nice one. Inside the men and women’s locker rooms are wet & dry saunas for your use.
Getting to the hotel from the airport will set you back approximately 80RMB without traffic.
I would recommend this hotel for anyone visiting the Beijing area and for those who are doing business in the CBD district. The location is amazing and away from the madness. There’s also an abundance of local flair within walking distance of the hotel. I can recommend and direct you to them if you need. Plus, there’s a Walmart and a shopping mall within walking distance.
The metro during rush hour is a definite experience. Be prepared to be pushed into the train and be squeezed. It’s like riding the NYC MTA during rush hour.
