We arrived via taxi from Beijing West Railway Staion. Driver dropped us at the rear entrance and employees were rushing out to greet us and take our bags to the main lobby. Check-in was quick, we were shown to our room and our bags arrived after about 2 minutes. We chose to upgrade to Executive Club access for 400 RMB per day or about $63 USD. This allowed us to eat breakfast in the club or at the Asia Bistro in the lobby. We chose to eat at Asia Bistro each morning and there was a huge assortment of delicious food. We had afternoon tea once in the club and we ate dinner there each night. Soft drinks, water, and cocktails/beer/wine are included. The food choices in the club were enough to keep us very satisfied. They had three entrees each night plus cheeses, fruit, salads, breads, desserts, etc. We did not want to bother looking for restaurants so the Executive Club upgrade worked well for us and saved us quite a bit of money.

This hotel was our favorite during this trip which included the Marco Polo Hong Kong, Park Hyatt Seoul, and Keio Plaza Shinjuku. The room was spacious with push button controls for lights and window shades. The king size bed was comfortable and the bathroom was large and contained an oversize bathtub and separate glass enclosed rain forest shower. The gym and pool facilities were very nice with a good selection of equipment in the gym. Each locker room has a dry sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, and rain forest showers. The pool temperature was just right.

The location was perfect although the shopping in the area is strictly high end stores such as Prada, Gucci, Fendi, etc. The Ritz Carlton is next door. It is a 5 minute walk to Dawang Lu subway station on line 1. Traffic is so snarled that we used the subway rather than taxis. The subways were crowded but it was better than sitting in traffic. However, we took a taxi to the hotel after we arrived at Beijing West railway station. It took about 45 minutes in traffic but only cost $8 US. We also took a taxi to the airport and it was $15 US.

The employees were extremely friendly and courteous. Most spoke fluent english. the room was spacious, comfortable, and quiet. We would certainly stay here again.

Positives:
- Quick and very polite check in
- Good service from concierge
- Fantastic breakfast buffett
- OK location; good walking distance to shopping and food options

Negatives:
- Expensive food in the hotel; very expensive for the location
- I had plumbing problems in my room -- toilet that wouldn't stop running; shower that wouldn't turn off.
- Took 2 or 3 phone calls and 45 minutes of troubleshooting to get Internet working in my room (but help line guy was good).

Given the price, I'll try elsewhere next time.

My fifth stay. The JW delivers a consistent experience which keeps me coming back for the:

Rooms - quiet; good & strong air conditioning; spotlessly clean & fresh smelling; tasteful decor; North American-compatible wall plugs for your electronics; iron & board in closet.

Bed - King had a firm mattress; quality sleep.

Internet - free to Marriott Rewards members but a daily charge is mysteriously added to your bill; staff happily credited the overcharge on check out; signal variable - kept cutting in and out so save your work.

Staff - good English; always accessible & eager to please.

Breakfast - USD36 buffet. Huge, quality selection for European, North American, Chinese and Indian tastes. Noisy. High traffic zone. Great service. Tables set up on outdoor patio but smokers mostly occupied them.

Gym/Pool - basic equipment but it's all you need; large lap pool; clean locker rooms with grooming amenities.

The JW is ideally located and adjacent to an upscale shopping mall with a large basement food court and supermarket stocking local and foreign food products. For a delicious meal of classic Chinese dumplings, head to Din Tai Fung on the 6th floor of the department store.

I've been here 3 times. There appears to be a very high turnover of staff. The manager of the lobby bar is very good, otherwise they all seem to be trainees. Surprisingly this is also the case for the executive lounge where one is made to feel less than welcome. During my last stay I got so fed up I checked out and spent a few dollars more on the Shangri-La. Now that's a hotel that makes you welcome.

Room Tip: Stay at the Shangri-La instead.

This hotel has it all. A wide choice of great resteraunts. I stayed on the executive floor and the room was outstanding. It had a flatscreen tv with many channels in english as well as 3 movie channels. The bed was perfect. The bathroom had a wonderful shower with a rainhead fixture in the ceiling and the bathtub had a tv in the wall. The executive lounge was one of the better ones with eggs prepared at your order and free wine in the evenings.

Stayed in this hotel for a week back in July. Very disappointed about its customer service. Over 10 min wait time for check-in. No greetings and no apology from the front desk girl called Diane. She was very unprofessional and rude in handling our reservations. Customer relation manager on-duty did not offer prompt assistance. Will never stay in that hotel again,
