I had read all the reviews of this hidden gem on a hutong street in Beijing but nothing could have prepared me for how lovely and exceptional the service and hotel was! We mentioned it was our anniversary and we were upgraded to the bridal suite at no extra charge. The staff could not have been more friendly or more helpful. Their English was perfect There had been a mix up with our driver (not part of the hotel) and the staff was so concerned they made calls and got everything straightened out even though it was not their problem! The room was immaculately clean and exquisitely decorated! The inside courtyard was so lovely. The restaurant had excellent service and the food was very good. The hotel is conveniently located to sightseeing and shopping. ANY trip I make back to Beijing with involve a stay at this truly amazing hotel!

Room Tip: The bridal suite was amazing!

Loved this hotel. Had never been to Beijing before and wanted to stay somewhere a little bit different, this is it. Easy to find from metro station, lovely staff, especially the lady working in the bar, great knowledge.
Rooms good, great bathrooms and breakfast was grand. A good hotel to meet fellow travellers, friendly and not impersonal. Already been recommending it to friends.

If you're looking for a corporate, sanitized experience then this is not the place for you. But I simply loved the charm of this hotel: excellent front desk and bar staff, gorgeous decor that was funky and belied a pride of local culture, comfortable beds and a good shower, peaceful courtyards that were a perfect place to relax after a long sweaty day of exploring the city. The hotel isn't in the tourist district but it's a very short metro ride away (and the Beijing metro is one of the best I've seen). I really can't say enough good things about this hotel - after having travelled across Siberia and Mongolia it provided a perfect home away from home to end our trip.

This hotel is not for those looking for familiarity! It is located in a small hutong (alley) , 15 good walk from the tourist areas, and the decor and layout is typically Chinese and not typical. The breakfast is ok,with a good 'western selection' and decent coffee from the (paying) coffee machine. The staff are friendly and speak English well.

We spent three nights at the Double Happiness a fortnight ago. We found the hotel through Tripadvisor and booked it as our first hotel in China. We had read about the hutongs and wanted to get a sense of Beijing itself and not hide behind plate glass. When we arrived we were upgraded to one of the Wedding Suites on the ground floor. A delightful room with splendid Chinese furnishings opening onto the courtyard. The hotel is in effect a rambling old house full of character and colour. The staff are very friendly and helpful - we were particularly grateful for the suggestions for places to eat locally. The bar/restaurant features evening recitals by a musician playing the Chinese harp while you eat. The location is very good - depending on how far you want to walk the Double Happiness is in reach of Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. The metro at Dongsi is no distance. The hutongs themselves are fascinating and well worth exploring.

When we arrived the taxi driver was unhappy about going down the lane and the general mess and bustle was a little worrying. The cabbie was only really fussing because it was narrow and he had a new car. As for the bustle and scooters and untidiness, that is the nature of backstreets in Beijing and once we had got out and about and found our feet it was not a problem at all. A lot of life goes on in the street and the standard of living is quite varied. People are friendly and the restaurants and dumpling places are good.

Altogether a lovely hotel, romantic and charming, which acted as a great starting point for our two week trip to China.

A group of us stayed there for two nights and had a fantastic time. The staff were excellant and the rooms were very clean and the decor was really interesting and authentic Chinese. We will definately be going to stay there again. We ate at the resturant as well and we all enjoyed our meals. The staff organised a driver for us and he was very reliable and friendly. Thankyou for a great weekend.

We booked to stay in this hotel for 5 nights after being convinced by the good reviews and we were very glad that we did. The hotel has a lovely traditional Chinese theme and the rooms followed this as well as being spacious, clean and tidy. The room had lots of facilities including a fridge, air conditioning, a computer and large comfy beds. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and their English was fantastic - which is a need when staying in Beijing. The reception staff were helpful with us when booking Excursions and calling taxis, also the girl on the bar in the restaurant area was extremely friendly and welcoming. The breakfast on offer here was also very good, offering lots of choice for different dietary needs at a very reasonable price. Dinner was also nice for the price. The only issue me and my friend had was the old road/alley that the hotel was on, this was about a 5 minute walk from the main road and on the first few occasions and at night this alley - for two young girls was a little daunting. However overall I was extremely pleased with this hotel and would definitely recommend it.
