When you visit China, it is a must to try their very own Roast Duck.
And since there are already numerous restaurants who serves Roast Duck, you should choose the original even if it means you have to wait and fall in line for some minutes or maybe even hours.

Quanjude Roast Duck Restaurant at Qianmen is one of the fine-dining restaurants that people lined up to.
Aside from the fact that it is situated in a Shopping/Restaurant area,
the good thing about their branch is that it is huge, and there is a waiting space
inside (seated) and outside (standing).

Quanjude Roast Duck Restaurant serves Roast Duck
in a classic way of roasting - Woodfired Oven.
Each Duck is registered by Quanjude, thus having a Duck Number.
And you will received a certificate that this Duck was served to you.
And this is one of the reasons why they are famous.

Plus, the whole duck is carved infront of you starting with the skin.
Quanjude has a distinct way of carving.
It has a certain number of slices until it reaches the bones.

The remaining duck and bones is then cooked to create your very own soup.
And thus, nothing goes to waste.

The Roast Duck is paired with the Quanjude Duck Sauce.
And a choice of Pancake (bread) or Rice.
As for us, we chose rice. :)

Be sure to arrive early so as not to wait for so long.
And enjoy your Roast Duck better. :)

The Xianmen street branch of Quanjude has a nice ambiance with the decor reflecting opulent beijing of yesteryears. The duck flavour which is infused with the aroma of the wood fired oven gives it a distinct flavour which is unforgetable. The chef slicing the duck is an art in itself, and quite interesting to watch. Its a bit pricy but its ok for a special treat. I tried the Quanjude in Shanghai and it was no where close the taste and quality of the Beijing branch. No trip to Beijing is complete without a visit to Quanjude!

ordered roasted duck and fried duck as well as rice and various vegetables. The roasted duck was delicious, especially with the sauce they provided. The fried duck left much to be desired. We were allowed one free refill with our soda order which isn't advertised but appreciated.

I've been to a number of restaurants in Beijing that serve this iconic dish including some very expensive places that are supposed to be the best in the city. The meal is always nice, but never great. So this restaurant was the same as I'd had before, decent, but not spectacular duck.

The restaurant was fine, the staff were good and attentive. The chefs came out to cut up the duck, which some in our party had never seen before, which they enjoyed. Price seemed reasonable and the atmosphere here was good.
