“Amazing location, but not 4 star!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

This hotel is great, friendly staff, incredible location, clean rooms, neat lobby and free wifi! But this is definately not a 4 star hotel. I have stayed in 4 star hotels in China and Kapok misses the mark on the small touches. Dirty grouting in the bathrooms and dripping taps. Very minor and petty points, but for a 4 star hotel, should not be an issue.
In my opinon this is a top 3 star hotel and should advertise itself as such. Because with its amazing location, it doesn't need that extra star to pull customers.
Being so close to the shopping street, snack street, a list of restaurants and subway, not to mention the Forbidden City, that is more than enough reason to stay here! I'm glad I came! Thanks Kapok!

Room Tip: Don't bother getting a Courtyard room. Its just a long glass window that looks out onto a tree a...

This hotel is a lovely boutique type hotel. It is spotlessly clean in all respects, rooms are of a medium size with lovely bathroom. Foyer area is nice and light with a very good restaurant (although somewhat priced too high). There are small restaurants across the road that are a quarter of the price so we tented to use these. The location is superb, with the night markets only 10min walk, shopping all within walking distance and many of the famous sights within 10mins walk. Overall a very nice hotel and would stay again. The only bad thing I would like to say is the beds were very hard!

Perfect hotel for those who would like to visit Beijing and stay close to main attractions, as well as restaurant, shops etc. Staff is very friendly and helpfull. Rooms are big and clean, but beds are really very hard, what make them not comfortable to sleep (I do prefere hard type of beds, but those ones in Kapok are too old).

Chose this hotel based on recommendations here and we were not disappointed. Hotel and rooms were clean and modern and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The location was great with restaurants and minimarts on the same street and easy walking distance to the Forbidden City, Wanfujing shopping and food street, and the subway. Breakfast in the hotel was OK, nothing special, so for the money we usually just found food outside. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it without hesitation.

Overall great value for money and a great location for doing the Beijing tourist routine.

Do note the Tripadvisor map shows the hotel location incorrectly - the hotel is on Donghuamen St but about 100 meters west of Beiheyan/Nanheyan Rd (i.e. not at the south gate of the Forbidden City).

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side of the building (facing away from Donghuamen St) will have less road noise.

We had a great 3 night stay. Hotel was convenient to Forbidden City and the night market. Room was exceptional although the bed was quite hard for a westerner. Staff was very helpful and the morning buffet was a good value.

The Hotel Kapok is in a wonderful location. Many of Beijing's top attractions are within easy walking distance and three metro stations to other parts of the city are approximately 15 mminutes away. The neighborhood is lively with very good, small restaurants across the street, a 24-hour market close by, and the Donghuamen Night Market and Wangfujing Street nearby. The rooms are very comfortable with ample space and nice bedding. The staff at the hotel are very accommodating and friendly. Overall, this hotel is a great value - you will not go wrong in choosing the Hotel Kapok while staying in Beijing!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hotel Kapok in Beijing is a uniquely designed boutique hotel located in the heart of this ancient Chinese city. A modern looking boutique hotel crafted with a touch of Chinese influence, next to the Forbidden City in Beijing. The lantern, a traditional icon in China, is used as a concept of exterior design, which breaks the boundaries between inner space and outdoor environment. An unconventional layout presents a spacious area; the ample use of glass enhances the natural light and the bamboo courtyard in the lobby slows the pac e of urban life. Hotel Kapok consists of 89 guestrooms and 16 suites, appointed with small gardens on the balcony. The interior design focuses on simplicity and pureness: white is all-pervading in the room, wooden floors and glass built bathrooms liberates the traveler's body and soul. The "Staircase Library" certainly increases the joy of reading. Hotel Kapok delivers personalized services while providing conveniences such as restaurants, bars, meeting rooms, business and fitness center.Hotel Kapok is located in the heart of Beijing , on the east side of the Forbidden City, minutes away from the famous shopping district Wangfujing. Tiananmen Square, Temple of Heaven, Beijing Train Station is also close by. ... more   less
