“Small but comfortable”
Reviewed December 13, 2012

My family and friends stayed in this hostel for 5D/5N from Dec.7-11. Our room was large enough for 6 pax with 3 double beds but we booked the room for my family only (4 pax). The CR is just right and cleaned everyday, with hot and cold water. The climate is so cold outside but the room is warm enough. There are thermos of hot water by the hallway for anyone to bring to their room. The staff are also accommodating and can speak English. The beds were comfortable but no TV in the room. With wifi connection. Breakfast is served every morning but for 5 mornings, we have the same orange juice, 3 toasted bread, 1 sausage or bacon, butter and jelly, fried egg and 2 small slices of fruit. I suggest to management to have variations for each morning for 7 days. We were fetched and brought to the airport for a fee like in a taxi.

Food stores are found around it. So many streetfoods, small restaurants and shops when you get out of the hostel. Not so long walk to the main road where our tour bus usually waits us for. However, it is so far from the subway station. We walked about 8-10 blocks from the hostel. We thought of taking a bus but almost all Chinese we asked for direction cant understand and speak English so we'd rather rely on maps.

You can ask them to fetch and bring you to the airport for a fee like in a taxi.
Overall, I would recommend this hostel. God bless.

My wife and I stayed here at the start of 6 months travelling, for three nights. It seemed good value for money. We had a twin room and it came with a private shower and tv (not that we watched it). It felt safe. Basic breakfast included (without coffee). Free map of Beijing provided. Trips available to book - we had an excellent hike on the Great Wall. Wifi available in the lobby (but quite slow). It's on a hutong which is packed with street food, bars and shops, about 15 mins walk from the metro. It also has its own bar with a big range, including niche Europeans (at a price). Overall it's a decent base from which to explore Beijing, and the staff are helpful though not very proactive - partly to do with language we think. E.g. trips, safe, map, Wifi etc all info got by asking, rather than being offered advice. A relatively minor gripe- the advice is there so do ask.

This is a hostel in Beijing hutongs area. The area is interesting, but not for a longer stay, although the area pricesare much cheaper than in the center. We stayed in a 3-bed room that had private shower/WC. Very basic, no towels, no hot water in sink, just in shower. They provide shower gel and shampoo. Wifi is weak, almost no signal. Free breakfast nextdoors is just 3 toasts and fried egg. Good point is that they provide free transport from airport if you stay more than 4 nights, and tours to the Great Wall. Kung fu show was amazing. Staff can understand and speak English. No credit cards.

Room Tip: Ok for 1 night.

I really enjoyed this hostel. This was the second one that I stayed in during my time in Beijing. This hostel was able to check me in at 9 in the morning to a dorm bed which was fantastic. It has everything you are looking for in a hostel. Comfortable beds, common room, wifi (only on the first floor), laundry service, snacks for sale, breakfast included, and a great location.

The alley that this hostel is on is a pretty happening street most of the day. It got a little quiet after midnight which is fine with me.

The hostel also arranges day trips. I took the trip to the Great Wall and it was done nicely without any problems.

It's about a 15-20 minute walk to the metro, but if that's the only complaint than you know this place is great.

We stayed at Downtown Backpackers for 6 nights in a twin room with roof window. We didnt miss the regular window at all, because the room was bright enough and silent. It was also clean. Free breakfat in the cafe next door was ok. 3 slices of bread, butter and jam, a bit of fruit, a fried egg and some juice. Tea and coffe is extra, but price is reasonable.

We also did the great wall tour, which was awesome and the price was ok. 3 hour drive to the wall, 3.5 hours hiking on it(7km), 3 hours drive back. The wall area the tour goes to is relatively empty except for some souvenirsellers,so you can enjoy it in a quiet way. All staff speaks english, some more, some less, but overall, communication works. For a small commission fee, they also book train tickets for you, which saves a lot of nerves.

Definitely gonna recommend this place to anyone looking for a good place. But please keep in mind that this is a hoStel, so different standards apply here.

This was the first hostel I stayed in when I went backpacking around China this summer. I arranged a pickup from the airport as I wasn't arriving until 2 in the morning. My flight was delayed by 2 hours but still had someone waiting there for me. The staff were very helpful and useful. I had a single room which was clean, comfy and overlooked the hutong street. The hostel is quite cool with a great chill out room, loads of interesting things to read on the walls and a variety of trips to key sights that they can arrange. I was very impressed by this place, especially as the price was good too and included breakfast next door. Great value for money and I would recommend doing the Jinshangling to Simatai, Great Wall hike through them. No hidden extras or 'shopping' stops! If you are looking for a clean, safe and friendly place to stay that is within walking distance of the major attractions then this is your place.

Three of us recently stayed here for 3 nights and had a very positive experience. The location is great - everything you want for a typical tourist visit is either located nearby or within easy bus or metro reach. It was clean, the wifi was good and the service faultless.
