Not a stylish place nor 5 star, about a 3 would pull it up but the convenience of the hotel makes up for any other shortcomings. We were comfortable and happy with the room and property overall, 3 nights, and would go back again despite workmen from next door property banging and rattling building materials right outside our window 24 hours a day. The day we left we saw the sign that they would try to shift us to another room if it was too noisy. Breakfast was good, staff could converse in English fairly well which was a change to some other places.
Right in the centre of the main tourist items in Beijing, the square, forbidden city, markets and main shopping mall, everything is an easy walk. We considered it ok.

Room tip: keep away from the new building next door, at the rear.

This hotel is good for its quality. Room is spacious enough. Beds are soft. There's housekeeping service. There is hot water. There's wifi in the lobby. Staff can speak English. It's near the night market.

It doesn't have elevators/escalator so I suggest you take the room in the ground floor. It's hard to lift your baggages if you're in the 2nd floor.

Also for tourists, beware of the environment outside. There were "unwanted" cabs & bicycles oftentimes, especially during the night and early morning. I'm not sure if it's just the place or everywhere in Beijing. :p

We chose this basic hotel mainly for the location as we wanted to tour the attractions near Tianenmen square and it proved to be such a great choice. We stayed for two nights. The room was spacious enough for the price we paid. Cleanliness was good- very white towels and sheets. The ac was not working properly and water was dripping from it when we switched it on. But it was fixed immediately. The hotel gives a free map which was very useful. There is always a person at the front desk who knows some basic English and so it is easy to get info and directions. The hotel is very close to the Tianenman east subway station and there is a bus station right outside the hotel which is very helpful to travel to the other attractions in Beijing. There are many convenience stores nearby. Forbidden city is a 15 min walk away. There is a garden nearby and you can catch people practicing tai chi or playing traditional Chinese music. Choose this hotel for the location!

Room tip: Would recommend getting the higher floor rooms in block 1. It was very quiet and peaceful.

Hammering, drilling, dragging steel poles across concrete floors (yes, it sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard), barking of orders from foreman to the other laborers- these are the amplified sounds directly outside are bedroom at just before 2am, yes 2 AM (all of which under floodlights)!!
I called the front desk and they appoligized (they told there was a flyer in my roof explaining there would be construction) and said that they might be able to change my room in a few nights (I'm here for 5).
I have never been much of a complainer, I've never sent back a cold meal or contacted a manager about bad service. I simply just don't use that company again. For an internationally know company with a decent reputation to knowingly subject their customers through this all I can say is shame. PLEASE do your family, friends and yourself a favor and find an honest hotel. DO NOT say at Day's Inn Beijing in.the Forbidden City!!!!!!!
