“Lovely Hutong Courtyard Hotel near centre Beijing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2011

We stayed for four nights in midOct 2011. Brilliant little hotel with quaint surroundings and obliging staff. Ample and good breakfasts, aircon and heating, fairly comfortable beds (for China - they were all hard), and interesting old furniture. The TV got both CNN and Macau TV so we could watch news and an English speaking film to relax at the end of the evening. The breakfast room was small (as others have said), but manageable with people coming and going. Quite a delight to be here. The surrounding area in the hutong gave us a feeling of seeing the true original Chinese way of life. The hotel is also an easy walk into the city centre - Waifuying Street and the upmarket shops. Other people at the hotel had also walked to many of the cultural sites (Tianemen Square etc) so really central.
There is a little local cafe in Lishi Street (next street to the right) which has lots of English writing all over its front walls, in orange and yellow. The meals there are very good and impossibly cheap.

I stayed here on my trip to China and loved it! It was fantastic as it was right in the middle of the big city, but you wouldn't know it. It was in a quiet little hutong area of Beijing which was really nice and authentic.

My room was not massive but it had all the mod cons you could want, like a flat screen telly (seriously!), hot water, air conditioning and also a little tea table for making a fresh cup of delicious green tea (quite a common feature in China).

The courtyard area was so cute, it was really nice to have some outside space that was so beautiful. It was great to have somewhere to read your book at night and relax. You wouldn't know whilst sitting in your little courtyard garden that you were in the centre of Beijing. Highly recommended!

Staying at the Beijing Sihe Courtyard Hotel was a highlight of our trip, we enjoyed five nights at this alternative accommodation. It was a unique experience to walk along the hutongs to get to our courtyard hotel, we felt like we were a part of the community unlike when you stay at a large American or European Chain Hotel. We were three friends staying in one room and we found that it was spacious but not overly, just perfect. The room decoration was quaint but a bit tired which added to its charm. The washroom was modern with hot water at all times of the day and night. The morning breakfast was provided, a great way to start your day and tea was provided mid day for those who needed break from the site seeing. The front desk staff was very helpful and quite conversant in English and were very gracious in providing directions
To booking trips or shows. The morning of our departure a taxi was called and arrived but for some reason did not want to drive us to the train station and the young girl at the desk phoned the hotels personal driver (it was very early in the morning and we think he had to get out of
bed) to drive us and he too was very gracious. A big thank you to all the staff. Wendy, Mary and Susan (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada)

I stayed in early October with my 13 y.o. teenage daughter. It didn't get off to a great start as the twin bedded room that was confirmed had been double booked on the first night. We were given separate rooms for the first night before getting the right room, which was a bit sub-optimal. Having experienced 3 different rooms, I would have to say they vary a lot in size so some visitors could be disappointed. Our twin room was spacious and great in every way, but one of the doubles was like a box. The hotel has free breakfast, free wi-fi, which works best outside in the courtyard and is in a great hutong location. There a free bikes and riding on these around Beijing was a highlight. The rooms are beautifully furnished with great tea, and mostly quiet. We slept very well. Beijing is an amazing city and this place beats the many non-descript International hotels by a long shot

We LOVED this hotel. Beijing was the first stop on our trip around China and we arrived tired and jet lagged. But we were soon given a lift when we arrived at this unique courtyard hotel. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. Our room, although a little on the small side, was nicely decorated with beautiful traditional furniture which really adds to the experience of staying in such a fascinating area of Beijing. The hotel is in the middle of a hutong and wandering round the hutong is an experience in itself. Watching locals going about their daily life cooking, eating and chatting on the streets was fascinating. We loved Beijing and staying at this beautiful, welcoming hotel really added to our experience. Yes, the hotel may not be the easiest to find but if you are looking to stay somewhere slightly more 'authentic' and interesting rather than a faceless high rise hotel then look no further. The hotel was also very good value for money with a good breakfast offered. We hope to return to Beijing one day and wouldn't stay anywhere else.

We stayed in this Hotel for 5 days in Oct 2011. It was a lovely experience. The location is good as it is only a few minutes walk from the Metro Station in a very central district. The staff are very warm and the services are very good. The room is very clean. For those woho really want to experience sihe hotel, this is the choice.

This was the first place we stayed in on our holiday in China. It was a good place to start. We had a luxury room, where the bed was nicely decorated with curtains. And it had airco, important in the hot summer in Beijing. The courtyard as a whole was nice. The front desk staff was friendly but spoke little English. The location in the hutong was very nice, and it was a short hop to the main street. A large supermarket was about 5-10 minutes walk. We even walked from here to the Forbidden City, though that takes about half an hour to the entrance. Breakfast had eggs but also traditional Chinese.

Room Tip: The luxury rooms have nice old fashioned poster beds.
