“A Really Bad Experience!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2012

Went there with a group during August and we only stayed (lasted) for 3 horrible nights!
(Just mentioning, summer season is the worst to visit Beijing due to the extreme humidity and heat!)

Well firstly, the hotel is isolated with no access to all attractions and markets. Next to the hotel a very dirty neighborhood is situated and there was a horrible smell at the time.

The personnel didn't know any English! How were we suppose to communicate?!? The hotel is supposed to have 4 stars!!. The beds were terribly hard, on the floor would be better! Breakfast, was mainly for Chinese with a few exceptions like eggs. But no bread and no cheese!!

The tourist agent booked us another hotel, since all members of our group had problems with the hotel.

While checking out, members of the hotel staff (probably angry for our earlier and sudden departure), was falsely accusing people of our group for breaking or stealing stuff from the rooms. In our case, they said that we broke the desk chair of the room and demanded compensation! We never even used that chair! The funny thing was that they noticed their "broken" chair but they didn't notice our forgotten book which was on the desk, in front of the "broken" chair!

Overall, it was a really bad experience, and somehow destroyed the first few days of our holidays! If we stayed there for the whole holiday, we would have definitely hated China (a country with so many beautiful places)!!!

This is a standard type of tour hotel, catering to groups such as the Wendy Wu tour I was on. Its main problems from my perspective were three:
Location: It is on the outer part of the city so is fine for being bussed around, but was not good for any individual tourist activities before the tour started. Fortunately I had booked for three nights in a hutong hotel and was able to do my own thing before the tour started, but the day I arrived at the tour hotel, the traffic was so jammed up that I could not go anywhere for the afternoon.
Beds: very hard, which Chinese like, but this hotel caters to a lot of Westerrn tourists. I resorted to taking the cushions off the couch and putting them onto my bed to sleep on.
No lobby Wi-fi: this is a cheap option that should be offered by all hotels and was for 70% of the other tour hotels. Many now travel with iPhones or iPads which do not use cables.

The rooms were fine and the breakfasts were quite adequate, and there was plenty of marble everywhere. However the previous reviewer who thought the condoms were free should have checked the price list on the desk! Especially the razzle-dazzle ones ........

Overall we were pleased with our first hotel in China. Spacious room, well-equipped. We did find the bed hard as this was our first experience of Chinese beds - also, we could have done with more than one very small pillow each. Very good shower, plenty of complimentary toiletries (including condoms!). Big fluffy bathrobes and slippers but thin and skimpy bath towels. Breakfast OK, good variety but slow to re-stock. Very efficient laundry service - collected within one minute of our phone call at 4 pm and returned before 9 pm - and this was their normal service, not express. Only problem was the air conditioning: impossible to turn it down. We did report it but nothing happened and it seemed everyone in our group had the same problem. Apart from that, quite a reasonable hotel.

This was our first stop on a Wendy Wu China trip. The rooms were clean and spacious but it takes a while to get used to the hardness of the beds. Breakfast was OK with enough to satisfy most westerners although the tea and coffee weren't much good.
Room amenities were quite good but the air conditioning was set to 26 C and couldn't be altered- this was mid summer in Beijing.
The hotel is a bit out of town and not in the best area but if you are on an organised tour it doesn't really matter

I recently visited China and stayed at this hotel. I should have known it would be terrible by the people that were on the street at 9 pm at the eatery right outside the perimeter fence of the hotel. It was dark so I shrugged it off. The lobby lifted my spirits temporarily. The lobby is well maintained to trick people into thinking the rooms are also maintained. NOT so! The first room I got was on the 8th floor. The mildew around the shower was HORRIBLE. The carpet was beige and filthy. I suppose this is the reason they have such low lighting, so you cannot see all of the filth. I immediatedly requested another room. They gave me another room, but it was obvious they did not want to. The new room was only slightly better. The carpet was dark brown and filthy. There was less mildew in the bathroom stall, but mildew on the door outside the bathroom. The wallpaper was peeling and yes the beds were hard. That was the lesser of the evils. The breakfast buffet was ok, better than the room. The receptionists were rude. The next day when I went with the tour group I got to see exactly what kind of area surrounded the hotel. It is located in what I would call the slums/ghetto. There were vibrating condoms, male and female sex oils, male underwear and male socks in packets on the desk that could be charged to the room. Some of the people from my group went to the basement and were immediatedly ushered out. There were some questionable things going on down there. The best part of the stay was the check out. The hotel does not look like the piture. I happened to go to Starbucks and there were people there from Spain who stated they thought the room was a 2 star hotel. I think it deserves 1 star and a visit by the health department. My tour guide was of little use and I will never use them again. I could have coped with the rock hard bed, but the filth is beyond me. Pay the extra dollars and go somewhere else. I would give this palce no stars if the system allowed it.

This was my first hotel in China and a pleasant surprise. Yes the beds are hard for westerners but I woke up feeling great!

Very clean room with two large singles (we were told that doubles were rare). Very good breakfast with both Chinese and western options.

The omlettes cooked to your taste are spot on. Give the coffee a miss though and hold off until you can get your coffee fix somewhere else. Not much. Of a location for walking but it is centrally located and I would come back here!

Stayed three nights as part of Wendy Wu Wonders of China tour. Our room was clean. Beds are very hard as usual in China. Breakfast was O.K. but gettng Coffee and Tea could be challenging depedning where you were sat, what time you arrived, and which waitress you had. Early it was self service, later it was brought to the table. At busy times getting two seats could be mildly challenging. Had drink in upstairs bar, waitress had difficulty bringing things that were clearly marked on the menu. Having travelled world wide on business I would say these are typical of many Hotels world wide.
