“Can't beat the location”
Reviewed August 12, 2010

An elegant hotel two blocks from the Forbidden City---what more could a visitor to Beijing ask for? The Raffles has a lot of charm, the staff is wonderful and the location cannot be beaten. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. I was particularly impressed with the front desk staff and the bell staf. They went well out of their way to familiarize us with the city and the areas that were within walking distance. It was the perfect place to alight after a thirteen hour flight from the U.S.

the location for touristic purpose could not be better, it is next door to the forbidden city.
The hotel is in a big complex, the hotel itself is rather small and rooms and lobby not directly linked, but the rooms are very spacious and modern and stylish and trendy furnished. Not too modern, they are cosy. Backside was: no view, aircon could not be adjusted. It was chilly cold in summer.

This hotel in a historical building - is one of the very few places in Beijing which does have a charm and character. Excellent rooms - I had the junior suite; this is the best value for money; very nicely decorated and classical. Restaurant and breakfast are excellent; much better then Kempinski or Hyatt which are cold impersonal business hotels in beijing.Soft beds and very attentive service, exceptional in China- and blends boutique atmoshere with business efficiency. Excellent restaurant!

Stayed in club-level room. Excellent service. Very good breakfast buffet (but pricey bar). Fabulous concierge. Consistently prompt email response prior to arrival. Perfect tour guide recommendation (Henry).

The hotel had a great location. Its very close to the popular Wangfujing Road and there's a subway stop (underground) on the corner. We had no complaints about the hotel accomodations and the hotel "ambassador, John Spooner, was VERY helpful. However, we discovered even before we arrived that the concierge was going to be of no use to us. We tried to have the Raffles concierge make reservations on the overnight train for us in advance and although we were assured it would be no problem, we were later informed that they were unable to get us tickets. This meant a major last minute change in plans for us, having to purchase an additional hotel night AND plane tickets for all of us. Jason, the concierge offered to purchase the plane tickets for us but when he gave me the price I was blown away as it wasn't the usual add on fee I was expecting but DOUBLE the fare. We also ran into this overcharging problem with Jason when we tried to schedule a taxi for a half day. We are used to using the concierge services and paying extra for them but this was ridiculous!

The Raffles Hotel in Beijing, part of the Beijing Hotel Complex (the three hotels part of the complex should not be mixed up).. We had an excellent stay with very attentive service, great restaurants and a wonderful room. Three downfalls: the a/c was put too high when we arrived, the cost of the extras are reasonably high, and taxi drivers seem not to know it very well (they typically bring you to the Beijing Hotel next door). Outside of this, Raffles Beijing is great. The Concierges are of great help and knowledge. and the rooms great and spacious. And all this for an adequate price.
