My wife & I traveled to Asia in May and had a fantastic time throughout. The highlight was our visit to Beijing when we stayed at Raffles Hotel. The staff, especially John Spooner, Chadi Chemaly and Margaret were fantastic and couldn't have treated us better if we'd been royalty. They were so welcoming, kind, helpful and generous, they really put our vacation over the top. We were given an amazing suite, the breakfast buffet was out of this world, delicious and fresh. The location was incredible, only steps away from a lovely garden and within walking distance of the Forbidden City, Tian'anmen Square and so much more, including Wang Fujing Street and a great night market. Absolutely the best hotel in Beijing and possibly China.

This was my fourth trip to Beijing for business. I have been trying to find a high quality hotel in a good location that is designed for the international traveler to be well taken care of and receive top quality service. I have found that hotel in Raffles. It is definitely my new hotel of choice in Beijing. Raffles was great on all levels, from the great location, to the beautiful, comfortable, clean, quiet room, to the terrific breakfast. But what really stood out was the service. Because I arrive needing to be ready to work, I require the use a variety of concierge services. They provided outstanding service in arranging my car transport from the airport, personalized service upon check in, help with my SIM card, purchasing of train tickets, and a warm check out with a taxi waiting knowing my destination. All of the staff were courteous, professional, knowledgeable, and went out of their way to be helpful. Additionally, their English was exceptionally strong, which can be a rare thing, even in the western hotels in China. It's also would also a terrific location for anyone wanting the see the major sites in Beijing. It's convenient to all.

I look forward to staying here again.

Room Tip: I stayed in the old section of the hotel. The room was large with a dramatic view of the city. I was...

Booked on-line and thought we would be staying at a really special place. It was truly very nice indeed, yet not the Raffles we expected. Turns out there are two sections, the classical and the new. On-line bookings get the new section, which is very modern, high standards of service (check-in was amazing), lovely rooms (very luxurious), great concierge (speaks English very well and extremely helpful), decent gym and huge pool. The hotel is very well situated indeed. Walking distance to Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City and good pedestrian shopping street with entertaining street-food market just round the corner. Underground train station nearby too and train service in Beijing is so simple to use, modern, clean, safe and efficient, though always crowded. I would have loved to stay in classical section but not offered with on-line reservation. Any complaints? No, unless like me you like luxurious with real character. The hotel delivers luxury in spades but is rather soulless. Good value for sure.

Dear David,

Thank you for your feedback following your recent stay with us at Raffles Beijing Hotel. We appreciate and value the time you have taken to share your experience with us on TripAdvisor. Here at Raffles we strive for being an “oasis for the well-travelled”. Our goal is creating emotional luxury by offering thoughtful, welcoming, graceful and charming service. Certainly, location, the condition of facilities and food quality are very important to our guests but we also believe that in the end it is the personal touches that make the difference.

We also noted your comment regarding the design of the rooms. We understand that some of our guests prefer the colonial style rooms in our heritage building others like the contemporary designed rooms in the auxiliary wing better. Since you prefer staying at our heritage building, may we kindly suggest to contact our Reservations Department directly under: reservations.beijing@raffles.com next time you would like to make a booking?

We are very much looking forward to welcoming you back to Raffles Beijing Hotel.

This hotel is far and away the best in the city, with the Sheraton Wall coming second. Immaculate, large room, impeccable service, and perfect location for walking to Forbidden City,Tiannamen Square, and great shopping. I became ill the night before checking out and, rather than making me book another night while I waited for my afternoon departure to the airport, I was very well accommodated in a quiet area where I could rest, sip tea and even sleep for a few hours. Highly recommended by a solo traveller.

We were amazed at the personal touch that was extended to us at the hotel, where all the staff seemed to remember our name. The hotel was very clean and the room very spacious. The location was a very short walk to the Forbidden City and Tienanman Square. Also close was the easy to use metro system and the hotel staff and "John the hotel ambassador" are very helpful with teaching you how to use it. Every member of staff was worthy of a good reference for their cheerful assistance.

Although the exterior and lobby of Raffles Beijing Hotel are impressive, the room amenities seemed grudging--no razor package, one small vanity package, one small bar of soap, 2 pouches of instant coffee, 2 small bottles of water and one towel each. When we came back from our first day of site-seeing, a dirty coffee cup and an empty take-out cup were still on the coffee table. The only thing that had been replaced in the bathroom were the toothbrushes, which we didn't really need. On the plus side, our air conditioner was now working (after having spent the first night overly hot) and when we let the front desk know we weren't happy, an employee arrived to clean up the coffee and add to our supplies. Still, at these prices, one expects rooms to be well-appointed. On the up side, the location is perfect for seeing all the popular destinations and within walking distance to the Forbidden City and Tienanmen Square as well Wangfujing Pedestrian Walk. Cindy, who welcomed us to the hotel, worked quickly to solve our problems and answer any questions we had.

Room Tip: Building 7 rooms are quiet.
