“Such an eye-opener!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2012

Personally, I love museums because they hold so many interesting stuffs from the olden days up to ancient times. The Beijing Capital Museum has 5 floors which can be accessed by long escalators and also lift services. I took the lift all the way to the 5th floor first as it contained many items from Ming and Qing dynasties culture. Many items from commoners are displayed and have their cultures explained. The floors below displays many other artifacts dating all the way back to the Tang dynasty. Porcelain bowls, paper weight, brushes, ink stones, portraits, scrolls, you name it! It is a really cool place with modern infrastructure but houses such valuable items!

“Very interesting - and nearly no Westerners”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2012

This was a great surprise. After having been to Beijing several times I wanted to see something more than the typical tourist attractions. This museum in an enormous building shows the history of Beijing plus special exhibitions (in July 12 how to see whether an artifact is fake or real plus a disgusting but also funny exhibtion of a Chinese painter). Make a reservation on the Internet for free (you might need a Chinese to help you as some parts suddenly only were in Chinese on the English website) and then you can go directly to the counter on the right side to get a free ticket without queuing up. I was there a Sunday when many Chines families were there and it's still funny that so many will ask you to be on a photo with them! Start the tour by going downstairs in the "tower" to see a movie about the capital's history (with English subtitles).

“interesting museum and unique design”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2012

The museum exhibits are unique!interesting exhibits on Oil painting canvass - really enjoyed the current art exhibition and the huge canvas paintings. I recommend the visit as part of orientation to Chinese history. The museum is huge with ample space, maybe due to the number of visitors.

“Huge but empty”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2012

The Capital musuem is a huge building, but it doesn't have adequate exhibits to fill it. Maybe the most amazing relics have been kept by the Imperial Palace Musuem, most of the relics kept here show the Beijing folk custom. So I think it's a huge waste of this huge building.

This should be on your list to see.I spent about 5 hrs just wondering around. They present the history of their country in a wonderful way.I was looking at artwork from 400 bc.If you are the slightest bit interested in Chinese history go to this museum and also go see the National Museum next to Tiananmen square
