“Very nice hotel but location is a struggle”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

I stayed here while visiting Beijing for a friend's wedding. Chose to book a club room, which was very nice. The only negative point about this place is that the location is far removed from the happening areas and getting a taxi is not very easy. Our taxi driver wasn't even sure how to get here. If you are in Beijing purely for business, this may be convenient but if you are visiting for leisure, you are better off staying more towards the central part towards the Chaoyang area, otherwise be prepared for at least a 45 minute taxi ride to go to the bar/shopping areas. Other than that, the room was very comfortable and modern, and large enough. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom was spacious. Breakfast was very good. I did not have any problems with the wifi unlike another reviewer. Overall, if you need to work around that area, this would be an excellent choice, though wouldn't necessarily call it the best for a vacation/leisurely trip.

I really enjoyed my stay at this property. The staff aimed to please and tried really hard to go out of their way to help/assist. The Club level was excellent, and breakfast/snack service on that floor was a nice touch.

The health club is well done and has the right mix of machines/weights for a good work out.

The internet service was difficult at times, but worked well the rest of the time. The bathrooms were really well done - right balance of function and design.

The location is difficult - not too close to anything during non-business hours. And the subway is quite a ways away. But if you have meetings on Finance Street, you are in the right place!

Housekeeping was difficult to communicate with - but they eventually got it!

I stayed at the intercontinental in my last trip. I found the hotel very accommodating, staff was very nice and the rooms are spacious and high standard. The main criteria for me choosing the intercontinental was its proximity to the meetings I had, staying there saved me between 1.5-2.0 hours drive in Beijing horrible traffic… all in all this is a high standard hotel that gives the business traveller everything he needs. Good value for money.

Very nice hotel with very central location. The only complain is I took a couple guests to the club floor for afternoon tea...we had a good time chatting and their evening hors d'œuvre time has started. Although we ate very little, when the bill came, we got charged for both the afternoon tea and the hors d'œuvre. Other than that, everything is near perfect.

I just spent 2 nights at the Financial Street Intercontinental, (Sept 27th, checked out 29th). I found it very accommodating and super friendly. From the moment I called the hotel directly and talked with Lisa at the Club Lounge.
She booked the reservation for me for the following day's occupancy. I had a very nice room on the Club's 25th floor. And enjoyed the club privileges, evening cocktails and food which I found very well prepared and very plentiful in variety. The girls that maintain the Club and it's guests, are very accommodating. They can't do enough to please you. They spend a lot of time talking with you when you are there alone, so you will feel comfortable. That's what Makes the hotel special. I stayed there 3 years ago after it was built and enjoyed it so much then, that I wanted to stay again.
That particular area seems to have a lot of congestion on the freeway, so I don't take the taxi into or out of that area if I can help it. But in other areas normally taxi's are relatively inexpensive. Just make sure you have directions from the hotel, to get you back without too much trouble. There is so much too see there, (when you can see). <smile> The weather has been relatively smoggy with a non moving frontal system that would normally keep it clearer. This trip has been the worst for smog. I have been there on absolutely beautiful days and know better than anybody it does have much better weather. There are incoming storms coming in from the Philippines that is keeping the smog to the north from blowing through creating an "Occult Front"( stationary ) and it keeps on building up from the north. There was a few days of rain that cleaned it up after I got back from Qing Dao. But since these powerful storms and Typhoons have been creating much havoc in the Far East and it doesn't seem to be letting up anytime soon. It is creating very smoggy conditions for Northern China. But getting back to the hotel, I still like the staff, which I feel is the most important part of hotel accommodations anywhere. They try very hard to make your stay a memorable one.

Room Tip: Get a Club Floor room and it gives you a more personal atmosphere as well as evening cocktails and a...

I stayed here for a couple of nights with a colleague on a business trip.

We chose the hotel because Financial Street is a good location relative to the meetings we were having, but it's also a good location for tourists as the Forbidden City is just a few subway stops away and the number of hotels in the area mean there are plenty of good places to eat in the evenings.

On arrival, staff took our bags from the taxi and welcomed us to the hotel; check-in was pretty quick & efficient, with no waiting time which is always welcome after a long journey.

We had reserved Club Rooms - about half the hotel is Club (the upper half, basically). The rooms were nice - not huge but well-appointed, with a desk that had power sockets to suit most international guests plus free internet (wired and wifi) which I think these days in a business hotel is a must-have.

As with previous Intercontinental hotels I've stayed at, the bed was extremely comfortable with a multitude of pillows to choose from. The bathroom was also very nice - again, not huge but looked pretty new with powerful shower etc. There was also plenty of hanging space and somewhere to put my suitcase (it's a drag that hotels don't always seem to leave space for you to unpack, so it's nice when the designer has considered this feature).

The Club Lounge offered breakfast 0630-1100 and it was a very good spread: English, Chinese and Japanese options were all available, plus the usual range of fruit, cereal etc. Close to the best breakfast I've had at a hotel in Asia-Pacific, I'd say.

The gym is open 24 hours which is great when you're jet-lagged and want to work out at 3am. The pool is also excellent, though not 24hrs as far as I know - I think it was probably 25m lap pool, perfect for unwinding after a day's meetings or sight-seeing.

Staff were consistently friendly and polite and most spoke pretty good English. On one occasion, when we'd asked the concierge for walkin directions to our next meeting, he chased after us out of the hotel to tell us we were going the wrong way! That's way beyond the call of duty.

Thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: Generally the Club rooms are good value because they include breakfast, Happy Hour (food & cockt...

Very good stay, breakfast was great, wide range of choices, rooms clean and nice amenities. The bar was quiet (maybe a little too quiet). In a busy area, main traffic route and subway station close by.
