InterContinental Beijing Financial Street
Ranked #116 of 6,568 Hotels in Beijing
Reviewed February 7, 2013

The hotel was chosen because of its location right at the centre of Financial Street. It does offer all the staples as expected of an international five star business hotel. Breakfast was a hearty affair. Service was efficient and suitably personal. The only slight disappointment was the gym. Located on the bottom of the atrium, under a glass ceiling with horrible lighting.

Dear Yau Baby,

Thank you for posting your comments regarding your pleasant stay with us at the InterContinental Beijing Financial Street. We are delighted that you thoroughly enjoyed your stay and were able to take advantage of our central location and the aspects of food and beverage were delighting and our people charming.

Designed to keep the modern business and leisure travelers in shape, the fitness center on the 6th floor offers a broad range of cardio-vascular and weight machines around the clock. The gym has a 6 - floor atrium in the middle, providing a modern and classical sharing space with sufficient sunshine. In spaces with good natural lighting, the approach can also cut electricity consumption which plays a role in energy saving. Meanwhile, our indoor heated swimming pool is adjacent to the sun terrace which is also a great place to practice tai-chi or yoga, we wish our guests get fit and unwind during the stay.

We are more than happy to provide our valuable customers like you with our high quality and customized services. Thank you again for choosing The Westin Beijing Financial Street and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Warm regards

Jenny

Stayed for one night on business and was persuaded to stay here given proximity to our office. When arrived was upgraded to a suite which sounded great. The issue was when I got to the room the suite was enormous, the rooms were cold as the heating had not been on, the furniture in the bedroom had dirty marks from pervious guest's spillages and the paint needed to be refreshed as there were several places where it was damaged. The room service food arrived without proper cutlery and was of doubtful quality. The Internet connection took over 30mins to make work including having to chase the reception twice to get the eldest in the Philippines to get me connected. The breakfast buffet was however much better than expected and the lunch buffet on level 5 was again very good. Overall at best average.

Stayed for two nights. Very large rooms, very quiet (despite having the room face the main street), excellent restaurants. The forbidden city is around 15 minutes away (by taxi). Hotel staff speaks reasonable English.

As you may know, all the rooms are installed with a large window which can overlook the famed Financial Street and the essential Hutong area of Old Beijing, but don't worry, all the windows are double-glazed, double the noise insulation effect of significantly better than single-layer.We are so excited to read that you would like to visit with us again. First let me preface that I stay at Intercontinental Hotels nearly 100 nights year all over the world.

I find that the Intercontinental Bejing Financial Street was a good stay and a Great location. The staff were friendly and the benefits and upgrades afforded by my status were good. The hotel is showing a little age but the facilities were very nice and the rooms well maintained.

I once stayed at the Intercontinental Bienchien at it was newer but the location was quite far from central Bejing unless you wanted to stay near the Olympic stadium area.

Overall I enjoyed my stay but could not give this stay 5 stars as some of the service was not upto a 5 star rating. I have slightly high standards though so one must read the below information on how much I travel and stay at these hotels to put it all in context.

Simply stated a 5 star hotel with a 5 star rating and of course the associated 5 star premium pricing has to delivery a 5 star experience to rate getting a 5 star rating from me. Most people I talk to would say that is a fair assessment.

This year ( just in calendar 2012) I have stayed at the :

Intercontinental San Francisco Howard Street
Intercontinental Los Angeles Century City
Intercontinental Seoul Grand Parnas
Intercontinental Alpensia Resort Pyong Chang
Intercontinental Kuala Lumpur Malaysia
Intercontinental Dubai Festival City
Intercontinental Bejing Financial Street
Intercontinental Singapore
Intercontinental Bangkok
The Las Vegas Venetian (an IHG - Intercontinental hotel)
The Las Vegas Palazzo (an IHG - Interncontinental hotel)
and a few others that escape memory at the moment.

I hold 2 Royal Ambassdor memberships which are invitation only statuses
and for camparison sake I also occasionally stay at the follow hotels when an Intercontinental is either very inconveniently located or simply not available. Here are a few I have stayed in for comparison :

The Mandarin Oriental
The Shangrila
Trader's Hotel
The Fairmont
The Conrad
The W hotel
The Grand Hyatt
The Park Hyatt

Stayed 2 nights in a standard Room on one of the Club floors.

Check-in was fast and smooth and the staff seemed attentive and very helpfull.

The room was spacious, bathroom too, but what made this hotel 5* for me, was definitely the bed and the breakfast. Fantastic sleep comfort and huge breakfast buffet selection.

My rate included wifi which I found fast and seamless in the entire Hotel. Make sure that you get a rate which includes wifi, otherwise it comes quite pricey.

The gym was good - pretty much the standard hotel selection, and everything seemed very well maintained - the general impression of the entire hotel, by the way.

The location seemed quiet but also a little boring. Nearby Fuchengmen line 2 subway station is a five minute walk north from the hotel. Take the metro at 07:15 in the morning if you are looking for action :-)

Room Tip: Get a room on a high floor (club floors) and enjoy the view.

Dear Ljungskog,

Thank you very much for your kindly supporting of InterContinental Beijing Financial Street and taking the time to share your thoughts about your recent stay with us . We are delighted to read how much you enjoyed your stay and our hotel features among the most wonderful hotels you have stayed in.

Thank you for acknowledging the friendliness and attentiveness of our team especially the club lounge staff; it is certainly with great pleasure that we take every opportunity to exceed your expectations and we do hope to ensure you will want to return.

It’s a smart choice choosing Club Rooms which you’ve stayed in this time, enjoy more benefits, convenience and personalized service including club breakfast, internet, Happy Hour cocktails, Afternoon Tea, Complimentary coffee, tea, soft drinks and fresh fruits available throughout the day, pressing service, wake up call with your choice of coffee, tea or juice, delivered to your room by our team, etc.

Refer to the internet service; if it’s not included in the room rate, then usually we will charge CNY 120/day, but here comes the good news, free internet services will be provided to all PCR Gold & Platinum members starting from January 1, 2013.

We look forward to an opportunity to welcoming you back to us in the near future.

We thoroughly enjoyed our five nights stay late Aug/early Sep at IC Beijing Financial District. Location is good with the metro about ten minutes walk away, and the airport a reasonable 30mins taxi ride. We found the staff professional and friendly, especially the Club Lounge team's genuine and warm approach to things. Our suite was very spacious, and apart from the usual bedroom and living/dining room amenities -- it also came with a washing machine! (a first for us at an IC) which we found unexpectedly useful as we had arrived from after visiting dusty Kathmandu. Breakfast was good.

Room Tip: If walking to metro station when pavement's wet take extra care as certain parts very slippery.

This hotel is next to the building I was working in in Beijing, so it was convenient. I'm not sure I'd recommend it for someone who didn't need to work in the Financial Street neighborhood, though.

The room was attractive and comfortable, and housekeeping was great about changing all my bedding to get rid of the feathers, and bringing in a space heater because it was cold (heating isn't an option until winter is declared, so there was a limit to the warmth I could achieve with the air conditioning.)

The gym and pool were good, but I wasn't impressed by the restaurant offerings. Breakfast was tasty, but extremely expensive, which seemed extortionate, as there really weren't any other good options nearby. The one time I ate dinner there, the wonton noodle soup was totally underwhelming. No taste whatsoever. How is that possible?

In sum, it was attractive and clean, and the people were helpful, but don't go for the food or the nearby sights.

Dear SingaporeAliPali,

Thanks you for your review from your recent stay with us. We are pleased to know that you liked the experience you made with the hotel overall and that our connection to many of the office buildings made your stay convenient. We are not as central located as CBD, but there are plenty of shopping and dining options within the Financial Street District and it’s easy for leisure guests to reach famous historic heritage sites such as the Forbidden City, the Summer Place and Lama Temple etc. Our Concierge team will be very pleased to provide you with the map and the exact location should you need any car rentals.

We try to make every effort to provide the best possible service. Refer to the noodles soup you mentioned, please rest assured that we will liaise with the related department in order to avoid future occurrence.

The restaurants inside the hotel including our signature restaurant Steak Exchange Restaurant & Bar, renowned as a heaven for meat lovers; and ZEN, one of Hong Kong’s most awarded culinary experience, a take on contemporary Cantonese cuisine; A view overlooking the bustling city makes Monsoon the ideal modern café for dining with friends and family over open show kitchen at a fair price.

Besides, there are several specialty restaurants around the hotel such as exclusive Taizhou cuisine Xin Rong Ji which is in the same building, the Merrylin Restaurant, a traditional Shanghai cuisine which just opposite to the hotel and Small Yugoslavia, well-known Sichuan cuisine like South Beauty and Cantonese cuisine Jin Ding Xuan etc also we recommend you could go to neighboring Jin Shu Street, only minutes away from our hotel, along with quite a lot of theme restaurants, bars and style snacks. We hope that on your next return trip that you will explore more delicious food.

We look forward to have you back staying with us soon.

Best regards

Jenny
