My husband I visited Beijing from Camdodia where we are living. A friend recommended the Red Lantern House, and we are here to continue the recommendation. We stayed here for 2 nights in June 2012, we had a private room with AC and it ended up being about $30 a night.

When we first got there the AC wasn't working, and they came right away to fix it, and it started working no problem. The bathroom was probably my favorite part. Coming from Cambodia, hot water, flushing toilets, and amazing water pressure was a welcome luxury. Their shower is fabulous and they keep the bathrooms really clean. Make sure your room comes with toilet paper, or bring your own. Also, make sure to either rent or bring your own towel as those aren't provided either. The staff at the Red Lantern were very helpful, but more than that, the people who were staying there were really helpful. Most of them had been there longer than us and were really nice in directing us to cool local areas to visit. Red Lantern house isn't too far from the subway, probably a 7 minute walk from Ping'anli station on line 4.

Our last day here we went to the summer palace and the pearl market, and had to catch a train that evening, and the Red Lantern house were super nice and let us leave all of our bags at the front desk so we didn't have to carry them around. We definitely recommend staying here, it's nice, quiet, and clean.

Stayed here for my first trip to China. It was very convenient that they have pickup service from the airport. It's affordable for 4 people but quite expensive when you're alone (we had a companion who paid more). We booked a family room and it was quite spacious and affordable. The location is 10-15 mins walk away from the train station. It is located in the hutongs so it was not easy to find it in our first night in Beijing.
There's free breakfast every morning and the family who ran the place were very nice. :)

Stayed in a double room for just one night. The staff were friendly, the room was clean, the bed comfortable and the bathroom clean for Chinese standards.
The prices are very good. The double room was cheaper than any other hostel I checked out, the beer is dirt-cheap (5 for a big TsingTao, so supermarket price) and the breakfast was fairly priced as well. I really liked the common room, which has a lot of atmosphere. They should fix the wifi though because it was slow. I had a faster internet connection in 1994 on dail-up... The location is very good, close to transportation and some shops.

The Red Lantern was a friendly atmosphere of people. We paid less than twenty US dollars per night for a large room tor two adults. The room was exceptionally clean and there was a beautiful courtyard where we were able to meet with other traveling backpackers and book trips to the Great Wall.

Room tip: Ask to be placed in the secondary building with courtyard

We stayed 6 nights in this hostel and we liked it a lot. We had a double ensuite room which was nice. The staff was really helpful and friendly. We also tried hostels own restaurant couple of times and it was good.
Hostel in near the subway so you only have to walk for few minutes. We also walked couple of times to Houhai for dinner.
Red Lantern House is a peaceful hostel right in the city. After spending the whole day wondering around Beijing it was nice to spend some time in the hostels and just relax.
