To us, this was the highlight of the palace since the original was destroyed in 1860. The artwork here is amazing, actually overwhelming. Only down-side was how crowded it was, but that is part of the summer vacation period in Beijing.

Many many paintings and other interesting designs on the ceiling and the posts. Something like the Lake Lucerne wooden bridge in Lucerne. The latter is however prettier as it is in the lake itself.

the paintings and carvings are very well preserved and impressive / makes you wonder how many people and how much effort was invested in pleasing a few royal members of family

Nice stroll through this corridor. Very green lake with a pretty bridge. Take the dragon boat ride on the big lake, it's so nice on a hot June day. My daughter bought an ice cream cone which was delicious and only 2 $. Made her day! This was a pretty place.

This corridor is nearly half a mile long, with individual scenes painted on the ceiling and support beams. A guidebook said there were 10,000 different scenes in the building.
