Owner description: Located near a lake and a reservoir, this part of the Wall is called Yellow Flower Fortress and is a good place for hiking.Huanghuacheng Section of the Great Wall is a resort with mountains, lakes and theancient Great Wall. There are very few people to be found here, but it is becomingpopular with hikers. There is a lake and a crescent shaped reservoir nearby. And the lake breaks this sectionof the Great Wall into three segments naturally. Part of the wall is under water and becomes submerged at high tide. So the Huanghuacheng Great Wall is nicknamed "Water Great Wall".The scenery here is unique and will surprise you.

They will set the distance with you to ride through villages on way to see Wall in a great remote location. No crowds - Oct was a great time to go with the turning of the leaves. Highly recommend seeing the wall this way. Great to see original wall, restored wall and wall collapsing/taken over by area foliage. You can see all stages of the wall. Very informative guides too!

Simply put, the best location to visit the Great Wall of China. This area is picturesque, much quieter and much less developed than other areas. You need to pay a very small fee to the land owners to access, but from there you can explore several sections of hte wall. Could have easily spent a full-day here; make sure you carry water (if visiting in hotter conditions). It can also be a bit challenging in parts for small children or the elderly. Make sure you enjoy a cheap, cold beer (as we did) at the end of the walk with locals.

Wonderful experience. We went to China with Viking River Cruises> The cruiseline did a great job and our tour excort, Richard, was superb. The Great (Long) Wall was just one of the many Chinese experiences that Richard and Viking took us to. We were at the wall during the week long October holiday so it was packed with locals. Everywhere we went in China the Chinese people welcomed us with warmth and friendship and the wall was no different. We were often "grabbed" by Chinese families to have our photo taken with their children. Even though my wife and I lost each other for a while we never felt endangered mainly becuase everyone was so friendly to us. The wall itself -- very much as you'd expect from the tourist books. The people turned it into a wonderful experience.

Our guide, Paul, collected as at the time arranged all via email. He was attentive to every detail, completely flexible. He provided us with great bikes to ride along quiet roads on the approach to the wall. We then hiked along the wall with no others around. There was no tourism in sight! It was a great experience. Paul's car was very clean and comfortable, he was punctual and great value for money. A very positive experience, I am not easily pleased by tours.

Fantastic opportunity to walk the wall away from crowds. We had it to ourselves pretty much, walking N from the road. Tedious 2-hour drive from Beijing was the only detractor.
