“Lovely hotel in Beijing”
Reviewed November 14, 2012

We stayed here as a part of the package on our Smartours trip to China. We were very happy with our stay. The hotl was centrally located (if there can truly be a center to the vast city of Beijing). We were close to a subway station and in the same complex of buildings as the New World Mall. We aren't really shoppers, but the gigantc supermarket on the basement level was amazing and wonderful...full of unidentifiable dried things, local candies, fish, meats and produce - and the Chinese equivalent of a deli bar. It was a feast for the eyes and tummy.

The room was fine but the temperature control a little iffy. The bedding was all natural fiber and comfy - a real plus in my book. Water pressure in the bathroom very good, but drainage in the tub a little slow. I think it caused a problem in another room with overflow. There was a gym on one of the upper levels. The equipment was new but sparse. That didn't matter muc as it wasn't much used. Again, room was a little hot and no thermostat.

We knew by visiting the website that the hotel offered free bikes for the guests to use. We really enjoyed cycing aound the city (even in the rain. We'd brought our foul weather gear.) If you go, definitely give it a go. There ae fenced bike lanes. As for navigating the intersections and Beijing traffic, just follow the crowd. I was a highlight of the trip for us!

Our group of 12 stayed at Penta Beijing for a total 5 nights in Oct '12 - the rooms are comfortable and spacious with all the amenities, good linen, toiletries, ironing board, bottled water etc. The western breakfast was excellent!
Access to each floor is by your room keycard but there may have been a breach during our stay as we had a stranger ringing our door bell incessantly, found the corridor strewn with litter & a wall picure lying on the ground. We also saw security "escorting" a person off the 7th floor.
With the subway just round the corner moving around was easy enough. The hotel itself is connected to a shopping centre and quite a few restaurants in the vicinity.
Penta does not have luggage storage facilities as we found out when we wanted leave our larger pieces when we went to Xian for 2 nights. They initially refused but after much pleading, they agreed. Thank you Penta! We highly recommend Penta Beijing.

Stayed here in Oct 2012 - efficient and very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms modern and well presented, excellent breakfast included. The hotel is one block away from a major shopping centre and convenient for major attractions and tours. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are good but I would suggest going for a higher floor to minimize the traffic...

We had a great stay at the Penta Beijing. We got two rooms for our family of 4 at reasonable rates. Rooms are a good size, very clean with modern simple decor, value for money. Linens good quality and beds very comfortable, we had great sleeps. Our rooms faced the city on the 15th floor, no noise. Bathrooms are small but quite serviceable. Breakfasts very good. Restaurant food and bar drinks on offer were excellent. Free bikes to take around city (just need to pay deposit). We hired all 4 and had a great time. Excellent location close to Tian An Men, Forbidden City, and Temple of Heaven and some good restaurants. Hotel service was good. When we go back to Beijing we will stay here again. Thanks Penta!

I stayed at the Penta Hotel in May 2011. Then it was just beginning it's upgrade process. At that time the lobby was a vast expanse of marble with a few random chairs. Jump ahead to October, 2012. The lobby is completely new: great dinning area, bar, super morning buffet, plenty of chairs to hang out in. Plus pool tables! And the new gym is also quite welcome.

Nearby are fun places to eat, two malls, and a terrific Foot Massage place at the end of the block.

A couple of minor complaints: the drinks are very pricey and on the small side. I was afraid my Scotch might evaporate before I could drink it. The bathroom is very small and the lighting over the sink makes one look like something out of an Ed Wood movie.

Overall, I really like this hotel and was still enthusiastic about it after a two week stay.

Room Tip: I stayed on both sides of the hotel and prefer the side that looks out at the back of the buildings...

Dear Guest

We appreciate your comments and are happy to know that you overall enjoyed your stay at the hotel, nevertheless trust that the drinks here in penta are not supposed to be on the small size at all!, I apologize for this and rest assured that we will be more than glad to offer you a proper drink upon your next visit.

Merry christmas to you!

Just spent 2 nights in Beijing and stayed at The Penta Hotel. Great value at 72 British Pounds per room per night including breakfast and free WIFI in lobby. Booked direct with the hotel as they had a 2 night special advertised. Hotel has just had a full refurbishment (some rooms still being done) we were lucky to stay in a refurbished room. The room is a modest size with everything you need, safe, coffee maker, bottles of free water, flat screen TV, Ipod dock. All very modern. The down side was the size of the bathroom. Very small, you have to go into the room and then shut the door before you can use the toilet or the shower. Although the bathroom is small, there is everything in there that you need, great shower, hairdryer and supplies of shampoo etc. Aircon in the room works well but very noisy during the night.

The breakfast buffet is the best I've had in a long time, fresh breads, cooked to order eggs and a range of Asian and Western products. You can fill up on breakfast which will last you through till the evening.

As you enter the hotel it is not very obvious where the Reception is, it is actually to the Right of the main door. Staff very helpful and asked plenty of questions about what you were planning to do during your stay.

Great location - 100m from the subway, 15 minute walk from Tianaman Square and Forbidden City. The hotel is next to a shopping complex with a supermarket on the ground floor and numerous cafes ranging from KFC, Pizza Hut, Starbucks and Asian delights.

If you needed a taxi the hotel has a taxi rank
Passport required at Check-in

Room Tip: Ask about a refurbished room. The hotel website actually stated that the room we had booked was a re...

I loved my 3 night stay here at Pentahotel in Beijing. It is close to a lot of things you'd want to do downtown Beijing. It reminds me of a hipper Novetel or a Cosmopolitan in Toronto. The room we booked was taken by the time we got there and they had no problem accommodating us in an upgraded suite. Our breakfast was included daily which was a buffet. Very good choices of food from fresh fruit and yogurts to freshly made omelettes, bacon, fries, cereals, Beijing bread and lots of pastries. There is something for everyone to eat here. There is free access to wifi in the hotel lobby and any one of their restaurants. The lounge serves up homemade noodles and chicken or lamb skewers to live for. The bar serves half price cocktails and drinks from 5-7pm..YUM. Our room overlooked the city which was nice. Complimentary water bottles every morning always started my day out right. Overall, very good hotel...had no complaints here.

Room Tip: Try to book a room overlooking the city. Otherwise, you'll be looking at the back of buildings.
