Private Half-Day Beijing Zoo Panda House and...

We were told that while we were in china that we would have to see Pandas! Makes sense: so we stopped by the zoo to see them. There were lots of other tourists who had the same idea too. We saw the Pandas and the other animals in their concrete enclosures. Appears that this location may need to be updated.

Our main reason to visit the zoo was to see the panda's and yes we saw them. The enclosure was outdated and in poor condition. You would think that the most iconic of chinese animals would be housed in an almost royal type enclosure. There is a red panda to visit and I do recommend seeing them. We were on a whirlwind visit and I believe there are animals from around the world. I saw 3 polar bears - one dirty looking very hot animal lying on sand?? With a pool that was green and hardly any water, even if full it would be a bath tub for a polar bear not a swimming pool. The enclosures for the others were all in poor condition but at least one seemed climate controled. We also saw a sad looking white lion in a large run down area with once again an empty pool. The only exhibit that was in reasonable condition (that I saw) was for the monkeys. The zoo is large and has lovely grounds but needs urgent attention. In any other country animal liberatiionists would be all over the welfare of these animals. Maybe you should visit and we could all try and get something done about the conditions.

Disappointed with the zoo, lots of concrete, small enclosures and sad looking animals. The big attraction is the panda enclosure and this gets massive crowds.
If you are visiting Beijing and want to see the panda, then worth an hours visit.

If you have time and money, visit Chengdu panda sanctuary and research facility.

All the animals were in concrete enclosures, they did not look happy & some seem to be lacking in water. Australian zoos keep their animals in invironments as close to there natural invironments as they can.

I had always wanted to see the Giant Pandas and this was great for me. There are other animals as well but the Pandas were my favorite. The Panda section is not too large and easily doable in an hour or less. If you go early enough you can get some great photos.
