“The hidden treasure in Tiananmen Square”
Reviewed November 9, 2012

Zhongshan Park is in Tiananmen Square and west of the Forbidden City. All tourists go to the Forbidden City, but very few go to the park. The park is very peaceful and beautiful. In the morning, you will see small groups of local people practice Taiji. The park has typical ancient Chinese emperor garden architectures with old trees and many birds. If your hotel is near Tiananmen Square, you should take a nice walk there in the morning.

“Immaculate and Peaceful.”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

This is a very enjoyable and relaxing large park right next to the Forbidden City with some beautiful scenery including a canal and nicely maintained grounds. The entrance fee is very modest. Of particular interest for history buffs is the pavilion with the "Lincoln Memorial" style statue and various historical displays.

This spot is immediately before the ticket booths and south entrance for the Forbidden City (just off to the left, or to the west). Well worth the time for a visit on the way to the Forbidden City itself. Visitors should note that as of the time of my visit in October 2012, tourists had to exit the Forbidden City by the north gate; hence it is best to visit this park before touring the Forbidden City.

“Renaissance hotel here is great”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

I discovered this park because of the Marriott Renaissance hotel across the street. The hotel is great and so is the park. Some nice restaurants here and walking paths.

“A little quiet park.”
Reviewed August 17, 2012

Every time I feel upset, I would try to go there. I like to revive my mood and the air may help me think.
