WE ate there with some friends. I thought they food was great. Very natural and seemed very fresh. Waiter could speak Spanish so we enjoyed that thoroughly. I thought the margaritas we ok. We ordered them by the pitcher and I think they put too much ice in it, so it got pretty watered down.

The most difficult part is finding the restaurant. It is literally right next door to the new Home Plate. It doesn't even have a sign yet and looks more like an extension bar of home plate.

I arrived at Taco Bar's new restaurant with high hopes, after hearing about Taco Bar from friends who had been here in the last week.

Service started off attentive enough since we were one of the three tables in a near-empty restaurant. We had the rancheros and breakfast taco from the brunch menu. We weren't able to order drinks as the bartender hadn't started his shift. This was noon-time on a Sunday.

The rancheros was a little too tomato-ey, with an odd watery consistency that left the whole dish a tad soggy. Halfway through my dish, I had to trade it with my dining companion because the sourish tomato taste was just too much to stomach. The breakfast taco was a step up but was somewhat bland and could be slightly more seasoned.

Predictably, the restaurant got more crowded as we ate and service got noticeably slower. We asked about our dessert several times and got brushed off with the standard 'please wait' from or Chinese server. Half-an-hour later, we received our dessert, only to find out that the kitchen had gotten our order wrong. We pointed this out to the server who promptly took the dessert away and said she'll check to see how long it'll take to get the dessert replaced. She never came back to us (we had to personally walk up to the kitchen to ask). When we learned that there was going to be quite a wait, we asked if we could just have the dessert we were served in the first place (some dessert is better than no dessert) but were dismayed to find that the restaurant had very promptly and quickly given that away to another diner after taking it back from us. We ended up wasting 40 mins waiting for a dessert that never materialized.

The whole kitchen mix-up and slow service left a bad taste in my mouth as I walked out of the restaurant. Sure, the restaurant decided not to charge us for our cheese dip, perhaps in a bid to compensate for it, but I would've gladly paid every RMB for that dip just for a decent dining experience. Money was never the issue.

The experience could've been salvaged if the mains were at least spectacular, but they were only above average. I doubt I'll be back. There're better dining experiences in Beijing.

Greetings Mei,

First off, I want to thank you for taking the time to write a detailed review. Secondly, I sincerely apologise for your sub par experience. It was our first brunch service, so we definitely had a lot of hiccups and mistakes. Someone in our management should have dealt with this in a better manner and also should have brought it to my attention. I was in the kitchen overseeing the cooks and there is no excuse for food to have left the kitchen in that manner. No excuse. Apologies. Also, I was never aware of the dessert incident otherwise I would have come out to speak to you.

I will be the first to admit that we still have many kinks and issues to work out as a new establishment and it is unfortunate that you got the worst of it. Again, I apologise for the amateur service and food you received. I appreciate your criticisms and will bring this to the attention of my team.

I would be so grateful if you could come in for a complimentary dinner one evening. I'm so gutted that you had a terrible experience and would love for you to have the intended experience at The Taco Bar. If convenient, please contact me directly at thetacobarbeijing@gmail.com

Again, thank you for your feedback.
Kin.

So many places miss the mark on some level. These guys get it. I visited there booth at the Craft Beer festival probably four times over the two day festival. They called everyone buy their name, they remembered my name after like my first visit, when one of the guys was leaving the festival and we were just standing around, again he called me by name and said good bye. These guys get it.
Excellently executed basic food...handmade condiments well done. ...AND on top of that, they make an effort to make a connection with their customers. Well done.
