Reviewed June 13, 2013

My clients and I stayed at the Imperial Mansion, Beijing Marriott Executive Apartments the first week of June. We had an outstanding experience! The brand new rooms are incredibly comfortable, with the most fabulous whirlpool tubs in each room. General Manager Pearl Peng and Director of Sales & Marketing Stephen Ren went above and beyond in making our large group feel welcome and catered to. The location is a bit difficult to get taxi cabs, and the front desk team were incredibly helpful in calling cabs for us so we did not have to wait too long. Everyone was incredibly friendly, and we would definitely recommend this place for future business guests. Famous Da Dong Peking Duck restaurant is right around the corner as well!
My family was also traveling with me, and General Manager Pearl Peng made extra sure my mother felt most welcome in a 'foreign' land. My mother feels as though she has a new friend in Pearl! We were truly impressed with this level of kindness and service.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are excellent.

Good for visits, as tourists, to Imperial Palace and major museum.
3 minutes walk to Book Store and Grand Hyatt.
1 minute to Dadong Roast Duck - unbeatable if you want to try one of the most famous delicacy in Beijing.
Room was designed for longer leases so size is very big, with kitchen facilities.
It is now available for short stay as a hotel. But it is difficult to know when the promotion will end.

Room Tip: Go out for dinner in the evening. The restaurant is good but average.

Spent four nights in Beijing to sight-see. I chose the Beijing Marriott Executive Apartments because of Marriott's excellent reputation and because of the central location, which is within walking distance to Tiananmen Square and the Palace Museum (located inside the Forbidden City.) The hotel is within walking distance to the Beijing Subway (Wangfujing station, line 1.) The check-in and check-out were perfect: efficient, professional and fast. The staff was very kind and helpful throughout my stay. My eighth-floor studio included a separate kitchen, living room and bedroom, and overlooked a courtyard. The windows opened, letting in fresh air at night and in the morning. The airport-to-hotel transfer was easy and inexpensive thanks to the Airport Express line of the Beijing subway (the subway is easy to navigate thanks to the signs and ticket machines being in both English and Chinese.)

Be advised to ring in advance of arriving and ask that the kitchen be supplied with Crockery, plates, bowls, pots / pans, toaster and anything else you would expect in a serviced apartment as none are available until you ask.
I forgot to ask for toaster, so had to do with out. (could not be bothered to again explain things missing)

Exelent location for Forbidden City, but a problem with local taxi knowing where hotel is. We got lady at reception to explain in chinese writing the location, which is behind a well know hotel (beijing Grand I think)
This seemed to work, which address on loaction card given by Hotel did not do.

This is the recent addition to MEA in China, opened late 2012. We stayed here for 5 days, with a promotional package of stay 4-pay 3.

Location- exceptional. Central, walking distance to the main shopping strip, including the street with food stalls (ie. the place to eat scorpions), Tiananmen Square/Forbidden City, short walk to subway station. The restaurant DaDong, famous for Peking duck, has a branch literally in the building next door.

Service- I found the service level was decent, and didn't encounter the issues that other reviewers have mentioned. Most staff speak English well enough, were helpful for the most part. I will state that I have lived in Hong Kong for the past 2 years, so I am now used to abysmal customer service and so on. Customer service overall HK/China is not a strong point.

At one point, we were trying to organise a private tour to the Great Wall, and asked reception to call the tour company for us. Of course, we were directed towards their own tours, but she did have the courtesy to call the company we requested, and allowed us to speak to them directly using their phone. This struck me as being unusually nice by Chinese service standards, as I'm sure they are only allowed to just try to sell you their hotel-designated tours, and not help you secure a 'rival' package.

Room- we were given a free upgrade, from a Studio to a 1-bedroom apartment, likely purely from the low occupancy rate. We are Marriott members (having stayed in only 1 other previous Marriott hotel...) so in-room WiFi was complimentary. The apartment was spacious, modern, with fairly tasteful furnishings and decor. The kitchen is not equipped with anything bar a microwave, fridge and basic coffee-making facilities, but we had been asked at check-in whether we wished cooking utensils to be provided for us. I can't say exactly what this would include.

One small gripe- the bed was comfortable as expected, the pillows though are very soft, too soft for my taste. The sofa is not the most comfortable in the world, but is fine.

Breakfast runs from 6:30 to 10, but is a disappointment. The cost is about 120RMB pp, and there's not much to write about. Cereal and toast, small fruit and salad station, a limited selection of Asian (fried rice, fried noodles, congee), a very limited selection of Western (fried bacon, Spam mostly), and an omelette station. Coffee is drinkable. Our package had breakfast included each day, but the last couple days we preferred to seek our own breakfast.

Like other reviewers we had some minor trouble with local cab drivers finding the hotel, even though we speak Mandarin. The Marriott sign is not clearly visible off street. We had luck with saying "behind the Beijing Hotel".

Summary: the hotel presentation itself is worthy of 5 star, the room is 5 star, the location superb. Service not of 5 star standard (especially not international 5 star standard), but really I didn't have any major issues. I would stay here again.

My husband and I stayed at the Imperial Mansion for 5 nights.
I have to say that the location of the hotel is simply fantastic, I don't know if it could get any better.
The hotel is literally a 2 minute walk to the shopping district, and 15 minute walk to the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square.
We stayed at a different hotel when we first arrive in Beijing. We had a lot of trouble with taxis in Beijing initially, and couldn't be happier when we switched to this hotel.
We were traveling with my parents, who had stayed in the Studio Suite. We stayed in the One Bedroom suite.
Their Studio suite was surprisingly spacious, not much smaller than our One Bedroom suite. The Studio actually had a bigger kitchen than the One Bedroom. The other differences other than the layout was that the One Bedroom had the enclosed bedroom (obviously), a larger living/dining area, and an additional guest bathroom.
The king bed was extremely comfortable, especially considering that most hotels in China have harder beds.
The pool was also excellent. The hotel wasn't very busy during our stay there, so we had the entire pool to ourselves for the majority of the time. It was very relaxing after a long day out and about.
The best part about the hotel was probably that it had only opened in Fall 2012, meaning that everything was almost brand new during our stay.

The very few negatives we experienced during our stay:
We could not open any of the windows in our suite, nor could we go on the balconies.
We had requested some cookware and utensils during check-in at noon, and they were not brought to our room until the next day.
The hotel is not situated on a main street, so you do have to walk a block or two to flag down a taxi, which could be hard if you are traveling with more than one luggage. I highly recommend using the hotel's airport car service if you are traveling with other people. Although a bit pricey, it was definitely worth it as we had four people with large luggage.

Overall, we couldn't be happier with our stay there, and would definitely go back the next time we are in Beijing.
