“Fantastic place for work and play in Beijing”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

I spent 6 weeks at this wonderful hotel while in Beijing on business. Had a fantastic corner room on the 17th floor with a great view of the Chaoyang District that was clean, spacious and well-appointed with a VERY comfortable King Bed and plenty of amenities. The daily breakfast buffet at Feast is outstanding and the service is always top notch. The gym/spa/pool area is a great place to work out and rejuvenate and the huge bar/lounge Xian is a fabulous place to hang out at night with killer cocktails and great live music. A big added bonus is that the hotel adjoins the brand new Indigo Mall that boasts great stores, restaurants, a movie theater and even a high-end supermarket.

As great as all of this was, the hotel greatest asset BY FAR is Upstairs Manager Angeline Tng. Her English is impeccable (she's Canadian) and her ability to help me navigate a very foreign country was invaluable and very much appreciated. I recommend both her and this hotel without reservation and would stay there again in a heartbeat.

First time to stay at the East Beijing (a Swire hotel). Stayed four nights in June 2013. The first thing that threw me off was that the staff look like guests... casually attired in t-shirts. They were always friendly and helpful, and they do speak good English. The rooms are hardwood floors (fake I think), no carpet. Closets and drawers are all flush; you have to push on them to get them to pop out, then you can pull them open. I would have liked some conventional drawers to put things in. Big shower, no tub. Rooms are spacious; king size bed was very comfortable. Electronically controlled blind effectively blocks out the light and keeps it dark in the morning (which is impressive because the entire wall is a window). And it was very quiet for Beijing. In combination, the bed, blinds and quiet atmosphere enable some good sleep at nights. The television is off to the side and not a convenient spot. I always had trouble seeing when the elevators had arrived. A small light comes on but I found it hard to see. The fitness room is large with high quality Life Fitness equipment. The pool area did not seem well ventilated, and was is not laid out well. Seems like it could have been decorated and designed much better than it is. Internet is free with the room and works well. The hotel is connected with a large, new shopping mall that has a great food court. Had a hard time finding the hotel on google maps; maybe because it is new, maybe because of the strange name. Overall, not as enjoyable as the Shangri-La and Traders hotels where I usually stay, but good enough that I would give it another try. The design is unusual and, in my opinion, not as comfortable. But location, staff, and quality of sleep were all good.

We arrived at the hotel early in the morning coming in from Europe. As they were not fully booked, they let us check in at 7h30 am without extra charge. It happened to me once that I had to pay half a day rate for checking in so early. Staff was very nice and helpful. The English skills were not always good but they always tried to help.

The room was new, modern style and nice. There was even an iPod dock, including an iPod with lounge music. The shower was a marble room of 9 square meters. Seperate toilette and spacious washing table. King size bed was comfortable. The view on the city from floor 23 was wonderful.

The connection to Indigo mall is very convnient for restaurants and shops. There is even a supermarket in the lower floor.

I it was just a great stay. Would come for sure again.

Many business hotels in Beijing are very soul-less, but East Beijing is friendly and nice. Decoration and rooms are great, the bar and the restaurant feels more like downtown. It has a shuttle that goes to many of the offices near the area. The only area where I would hope for an small improvement is the breakfast, which is diverse but not of the same high quality as the rest of the hotel's offerings.

I went to the East Hotel because it is close to ABB Beijing. I got really surprised with the friendly staff that warmly welcomed me during my stay, also it is important to mention that they speak a good English (hard to find even in international hotels in China). My special thanks to the concierge, Mr. Leo, that invited me to visit Beijing, showing the touristic spots on my first day.

This is a good hotel for business stay. The hotel belongs to the Swire Hotel group. It has about 300+ different type of rooms including some suites. WiFi is compliment and available almost everywhere within the hotel. There are two restaurants, one bar. The food quality, variety, prices are reasonable. There is a gym for workout with instructors. There is a mid-range shopping mall, INDIGO, nearby. Though the rating as 5*; reckon it more closer to 4* currently. The staff are well trained, and speak good English. The big plus for this hotel is the special rate being offered. This is not a hotel for tourists; as the location is quite distant from city centre. As it is quite new, many taxi drivers are unaware of the location.

Room Tip: Higher floors would be preferred, and facing East if the stay is in Summer.

Beijing is a big city and you would have to decide what area to stay in for your visit. East is a new hotel and is well designed with good restaurants and gym/Swimming pool. They also have very good wifi all over the hotel. Free!!
Rooms are modern and beautiful. The hotel is connected to the indigo mall if you want to do some shopping or try some other restaurants.
For the summer season the bar offers nice outdoor area.
Can recommend this for all kind of travel.
Staff speaks good English and helpful.
