We had the most wonderful experience with WildChina! First, working with WildChina to plan our trip was a pleasure. They listened to where we wanted to go and the type of experiences we wanted to have, and then formulated a trip tailored to exactly what we had envisioned. They will price things for you at various hotel levels; we wanted to stay at 5 star hotels but was able to see the difference from 4 star hotels they presented as another option. They were very quick to respond to any and all questions we had beforehand, from the beginning when we were planning the trip to last-minute questions just before we departed. Our itinerary was flying from the USA to Hong Kong, then Guilin, Shanghai, Xi-An, and ending in Beijing. We were met at each stop at the arrival hall in the airport by our guide, with a driver waiting to take us to our hotel. I cannot say enough about our local guides and could not begin to choose which one we liked the best, because they were all fantastic. Each guide was very knowledgeable, fluent in English, and very helpful if we had a specific thing we were looking for or wanted to do in their city. The guides were amazing, the hotels were great, and, in short, our trip was perfect from start to finish, mainly because WildChina took care of all the details, large and small. Fann Fang was our WildChina trip planner. She was so pleasant and such a joy to work with; we were lucky enough to actually meet her while in Beijing. Our guides were Lily To in Hong Kong, Michael Zhao in Guilin, Joyce Ying in Shanghai, Maggie Wu in Xi-An, and Julia Zhu in Beijing, all of whom made us feel very welcome and almost like family. They all knew exactly where to go, the best times to get there, and how to avoid long lines. Such nice people who clearly were very experienced tour guides. And cannot forget the drivers for each city, who were also so nice and seemed to always know exactly the moment to pick you up. If you are looking for a tour company for an amazing trip to China, I highly recommend WildChina. Cannot think of a single negative aspect of our trip. Thank you, WildChina, for orchestrating our amazing trip to China.

What a wonderful experience this was.

For a keen food lover the stress of going abroad is always that one never knows what restaurant to go to, despite endless Googling, and when one picks a place one doesn’t know what the best dishes to order are. On this tour I was able to relax in the certain knowledge that Fuchsia had chosen the best restaurant in town and would order their finest dishes. And she never let the group down. Every meal was spectacularly good, and overall provided a brilliant primer in the varied and endlessly delightful world of Chinese cooking, from street food to fine dining.

And as well as plate after plate of great food every day, I also got to see The Great Wall, The Forbidden City, The Terracotta Warriors, Pandas galore and Hanghzhou’s West Lake. Wonderful. Thoroughly recommended.

Hi Ben,

We're so delighted to hear this! Food is such a great lens to understand a destination, and we're so happy that you got to relax and let Fuchsia work her magic. Pair that with all the magnificent places you saw, and you've got a recipe for an amazing trip!

We hope this sets you off on a quest to find the best Chinese dishes back home :)

All the best,

The WildChina team

From the start of connecting with WildChina and working with trip planner Fann Fang to the end of the actual trip, we had a truly amazing experience. I had researched which company to use - wanting to use a company located in China - and vetted WildChina through a Chinese friend of mine in the US who used to be a tour guide with another company. They are very experienced with US travelers so understand the sorts of things that US travelers want and expect. Fann was responsive, helpful and thoughtful. She helped us plan special things tailored to our family's interests (I traveled with my 2 teenage children). We felt safe and taken care of the entire trip. For example, our tour guides would meet us in the arrival hall or on the train platform where we exited, go with us to restaurants to help us order, both for understanding purposes and for food allergy purposes, and adapted to our needs and wants during the trip. Ariel in Shanghai knew that we were into food and made sure we went to outstanding restaurants and had perfect recommendations for exactly what to order at each place. Andy in Beijing was fun, energetic and so thoughtful - we especially loved our time with him. (He even hiked for hours more with my son when my daughter and I were too tired to do more of the Great Wall!) Jessica in Xi'an was very experienced and knowledgeable. David in Chengdu was so very kind and beyond accommodating to our requests. He arranged just the right amount of time and the experience we wanted with the pandas and dealt with our craving for Western food (a week into the trip). Michael in Guilin and Yangshuo was the right balance of laid back and on top of everything - we loved hiking the rice fields in Longsheng, bike riding in the countryside and painting fans. Liz in Hong Kong was also accommodating and took care of our every request. We were hesitant to go to Hong Kong because of the protests, but Fann (our travel planner) was outstanding in helping us to decide what to do. She planned an entire backup option for us and was in constant contact with the Hong Kong office. Once we decided to go to Hong Kong, Liz made sure we were comfortable and was totally informed about when and where things were going on so we were safe. We were very pleased with the hotels (Peninsula in Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong; Ritz-Carlton in Chengdu; Alila in Yangshuo) and restaurants (other than the Sheraton in Guilin, which I insisted on because of location - not a WildChina recommendation!). The food and hotel in Xi'an (Sofitel) were just fair, but there aren't better options than what was recommended, and on a first trip to China, you have to see the Terracotta Warriors. I would 100% recommend WildChina to anyone traveling to China.

Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to write this amazing review!

We're overjoyed that everything went smoothly from end to end for you and your children. We hope this trip is a memory your family can cherish for years to come.

You all got some of the 'greatest hits' of China's destinations! It also makes us especially happy that you enjoyed your time seeing Hong Kong.

And wow, we loved reading your comments about each guide and their unique style. We will absolutely send your kind words to them.

We're glad we passed those initial tests and vetting :)

We wish you all the best,

My first trip to China was incredible, though we were not able to go to some locations due to the 70th anniversary of The Republic of China. Our guides were fantastic, making necessary changes due to the anniversary. From the pick-up from the airport to the dropoffs/pick-ups at the various train stations and airports. Each of our guides had great personalities and in-depth knowledge of the areas we visited. The drivers were safe and courteous, navigating the chaos that are Chinese cities with ease and confidence. Thank you to all of our guides and drivers!!!

We just arrived back from our second Wild China trip. Once again, every aspect of the trip was beautifully planned and executed. Our guide, Megan, was spectacular. Her knowledge of every place we visited was extensive. Her insight, along with her positive attitude and sense of humor and adventure, made the trip very special. Our drivers, Mr. Young and Mr. Ma, were excellent as well! We have traveled in China a fair bit over the past 25 years and can say that this was our favorite trip so far. The itinerary created by Wild China provided us with a wonderful scope of the culture, cuisine, and natural beauty of Gansu Province.

Hearing that your trip was so memorable, even after traveling throughout China over the course of 25 years, gives us the fuel to continue to do what we do.
