“I liked it”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2012

I liked this hotel. It felt more in the centre of things than others that I stayed at in China. There were a small convenience shops and a bakers opposite. Nice foyer, expensive bar drinks - much cheaper in the restaurant - and they didn't know how to make a gin martini - which was disappointing. Food not bad, breakfast big, did seem to be a lot of package tours there if I'm honest. Room was nicely furnished with an 'interesting' array of purchase options, [vibrating ring anyone?] Fewer toiletries & freebies than other hotels I stayed in but I quite liked it. Lovely comfy beds with 'seed' pillows, which were great.

When you first walk into this hotel, you think wow as gave impression of a four star....however like the previous reviews, the restaurants and bar areas are expensive, there is wifi and this is available in the bar area,However it was very slow, for a tea and beer it costs £8. We did not use the restaurants as there appeared empty, and you did not know the prices until you sat down, I took the advice of a previous review and turned left out if the hotel to find excellent food and prices, although it was a bit of finger pointing on my behalf.

The rooms were worn, dusty and needed a revamp, the bathroom like previous reviews stated had cracked tiles and mold, I stayed for 6 nights on a room only basis and was bearable.

The hotel is a good 20 mins walk to top end of qianman street, where the shops are and the start of the Tiananman square. The temple of heaven was 10 mins away.

This hotel appealed to tour groups and there was always coaches outside and big groups leaving and arriving, we had ourselves just finished the trans-Siberian organised trip. There are better hotels if booking independently and recommend north/east of the city as most of the sites are there and good outlets via road to the wall, summer palace and nest etc.

Like a previous review, there are toiletries for sale in the bathroom and this does give the impression that trying make a fast buck at any cost.

Room Tip: Lots of guide books in room, mostly in Chinese, the views from 13th floor was really good at sunrise...

OK hotell, nice rooms - but do not expect smokefree rooms - even bedlinen smell. The carpet had not been vacuumet recently, otherwise ok. The respetion hung up on me twice when I tried to ask a question, and the left me when I went down to the reseption. The coffee was expensive and undrinkable. The same at breakfast. But bring your own instant coffee - there are water boilers in the room. Unfortunately you cannot get just boiled water at breakfast.

We stayed at this hotel as part of a tour with Travelsphere. It was the worst hotel we stayed at on the tour and we had plenty to complain about. On the surface the room was 'OK', but when you looked closer you saw the stains on the carpet (which was also very worn), the handle over the bath was hanging off and rust going down the tiles where the handle had broken, scum on the shower head (I couldn't shower until it was cleaned/replaced; it was really bad), the toilet hadn't been cleaned and the remains of the previous occupier remained on the rim, and the tiles were in desperate need of a re-grout, the shower curtain was 'minging' as was the towels and bath mat. In the main, the bathroom was the problem, and it offered a selection of 'adult toys'. This is appeared to be the sort of hotel which rented rooms by the hour. If this hotel is on your holiday itinerary from Travelsphere I urge you to contact them and have it changed before you leave the country. The location isn't brilliant; there is nothing around (although handy for the Temple of Heaven). The only positive was that breakfast was good. The bar staff were not the best either. Not 4 stars; more like 2.

Room Tip: Don't choose this one!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stayed here for 6 nights as a wind down after 3 weeks roughing it in Mongolia, before joining a 10 day tour of China.
We were traveling with our 2 children age 11 & 14, & were surprised that the 2 rooms we were initially given were on opposite ends of one floor. We eventually managed to get 2 rooms side by side after several hours wait.
As mentioned in other reviews, the beds are rock hard, which is common in China, the pillows too are like bricks. The rooms, although clean, but worn, are small & we found it difficult fitting our luggage & ourselves in.
The breakfast included is pretty basic, with staff packing away tables & food away from 8.30 when breakfast is served until 9. If you are really lucky, you may even get blasted with Britney Spears songs as you eat (perhaps a ploy to clear guests a bit quicker!)
Did get Wi Fi in the breakfast cafe & in the lobby, although there is no where to sit in the lobby.
The location wasn't ideal, it was a trek to the subway. We found many taxi drivers didn't know the whereabouts of the hotel, so getting a taxi back from somewhere was at times frustrating, with drivers sometimes just waving us away when we tried to show them on a map.
Definitely not kid friendly.

Great location for heading to the Temple of heaven and metro fairly close for other spots. Large comfy rooms and really good breakfast.
