In old district of Beijing, 15 to 20 minutes waking to closest subway station but bus stop is very close. Many many small reataurants (eating tables at sidewalk) around the hotel, so a little bit crowded and dirty. Saw people smoking in the lobby, both customers and hotel workers.

Friendly and efficient staff – English fair. Free Wi-Fi in public areas. Rooms comfortable and clean with tea / coffee making facilities. Money exchange and ATM in foyer. Excellent breakfast with a variety of Western as well as Chinese breakfast dishes. Hotel restaurants quite pricy but many local restaurants to choose from and enjoy. Those without English menus have pictures and were always prepared to help with suggestions. Beer is cheap and cold. Hotel situated in a less affluent suburb with many working class people, so no fancy clubs or restaurants. Many local shops and vendors selling fresh fruit and goods. Perfect place to experience “ China”. Temple of Heaven within walking distance and a must see. Beautiful and relaxing gardens with locals relaxing, dancing and exercising in groups or individually. Other monuments and attractions easily accessible by taxi. We would stay there again.

for the one night stay. Very clean room but inspite of being non-smoking, a pervasive smell of cigarettes linger. SAme in the roomy hall.
Very accomodating staff who did not charge us for the early checkin.
Busy area with lots of humble but good restaurents and local fruits and food shops.

Room Tip: Good for recovery from jetlag - quite far from the main attractions in the centre of Beijing though...

A group of us stayed at this property during a recent visit to Beijing. After a six night stay, I cannot recommend this hotel until it gets cleaned up. A few pros and cons:
Pros
- The staff was very friendly and helpful. In particular, the bell and breakfast staff were very nice and accommodating
- The wifi is spotty but the front desk offers free routers. Get one.
- The hotel is in a quiet residential neighborhood and even on the lower floors, it was very quiet and peaceful in the evenings and early morning.
- The breakfast buffet was very good. Lots of offerings of many different kinds including omelets, pancakes, fresh fruit, and lots of other offering. I don't agree with the other reviews that bashed the breakfast. It was quite good and had something for everyone (although the coffee was pretty bad).
Cons
- As noted, this property is pretty far from everything. It is a 10-15 minute walk to the subway and then a train ride of 15 minutes or more to get anywhere. Only places close by are *very* local (i.e., not foreigner friendly) restaurants and shops. In essence, nothing is walk-able - you have to train or taxi everywhere.
- Speaking of which, this place is so far out that many taxi drivers did not know where it was or refused to take us back to the hotel after dinner, siteseeing, etc. Even with a map, Chinese-language directions, and locals helping us, we had an incredibly difficult time finding taxis who would bring us back. Make sure you have a way back before leaving and don't count on the subways after 11 pm or so as they start shutting down for the night fairly early.
- The property itself is pretty dated. The rooms are nice enough but the carpets are very worn and dirty, many of the common areas, halls, and elevators reek of cigarette smoke, and the lobby area is less than welcoming. Several in my group had to ask for different rooms because theirs were so smelly even though there were in supposedly "non-smoking" rooms and floors.

Maybe after a full renovation and a dedication to enforcing non-smoking policies, this could be a decent property if you are looking for something quiet and don't mind the distant location and transportation issues (i.e., you have business in the immediate area). Otherwise, I cannot recommend it.

Room Tip: Rooms in the little annex on the first floor past the elevators were mostly smoke free and very quie...

Holiday Inn okay but I'm sure there are better alternatives

We arrived just after lunch time to find our room wasn't ready resulting in a 50 minute wait in the lobby, so not a good start.

The rooms themselves were okay and exactly the same as you would expect from a chain brand hotel.

The free WIFI in the lobby was reliable and quick enough to support Skype.

I really enjoyed the breakfast. A good selection, the dumpling soup was very tasty.

As mentioned by previous reviewers the location is not the best, right in the middle of a residential area. On the plus side though just around the corner you can enjoy tasty and cheap food from the local street vendors whilst sampling a cheap local beer or two.

In all whilst I feel there are better alternatives I really couldn't find fault with the hotel. It served as an ok base for our three day tour of Beijing.
